Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...

Posted by Shelly Also, my old gyn shocked me when she told me how many grown women she treats have no clue about how women get pregnant.
Do you know exactly what she meant by it: do they not realize that a woman needs to have intercourse with a men ejaculating inside of her or do they just not know about the cycle and fertile time etc...
Okay my mother had five pregnancies that resulted in three children and she never knew that there was a short window of time where you could get pregnant. She was in shock when my sister and I explained it to her because she couldn't understand how to "avoid" pregnancy by avoid sex at certain times of your cycle.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...
Posted by Kara I was voicing a thought I had when I saw the poll, and that thought is related to the general discussion. If you find my comment so irrelevant, then ignore it. I have no desire to start another poll, as I feel it would take away from this one and neither would wind up being a fair representation of the LIF community.
So as not to take hijack this thread you have FM.

I was just curious regarding abortion because I imagine it's similar in that the pregnancy abruptly ends.
the procedure to remove what's left in your body after the miscarriage may be similar, but abortion is not similar to a miscarriage. A miscarriage is a natural end to a pregnancy, an abortion is not.
ETS: I hope you feel better soon

I think she meant the procedure (D&C)

I am pretty sure she understands the difference between an abortion and a M/C.....

I have never been through either. I know one person who had an abortion, because she had just found out she had bone cancer AND was pregnant. The doctor would not do the surgery she needed unless she terminated the pregnancy.

WOW.
ONE.
ONE person who gave their child up for adoption. I cannot say I am shocked, but I am disappointed and saddened by the results of the poll.
Whoever you are, I want you to know that in my opinion you are VERY brave and a hero.

We STILL live in a world where we can CHOOSE what to do with an unwanted pregnancy. Do not assume you know everyone's situation. everyone needs to do what they think is right for them

WOW, where is this coming from????? A little hostile don't you think?
LOOK at what I ACTUALLY posted...I was just stating that ONE person gave up their child for adoption and I was expressing that I thought she was a hero. THAT IS ALL. The poll states it loud and clear and I was just pointing it out. EXACTLY HOW is that assuming everyone's situation????? YOU are making ASSUMPTIONS about ME based on something I did not write in my post.
WHY do you have such a problem with everything I post on this topic? Aren't I entitled (by your own standards) to MY OWN OPINION???? My own POV????
Jeez, I say one thing that you do not agree with and you pounce all over me. Way to be tolerant. AND some of you wonder why people with a different opinion WILL NOT POST on this board?????

oh you are most certainly entitled to your opinion. I just think sometimes things happen that are out of our control. I know people who have had abortions and are STILL scarred and traumatized from that decision. I do not think anyone takes that decision lightly. I did not mean to get defensive but I think we need to try to be understanding of different situations, even if we do not agree with them, KWIM?
I am not at all surprised by the poll results

I feel the same way. Saddened. I'm sad that so many women had to make such a difficult decision in their lives.
And I agree with you...to the person who gave their child up for adoption, I can't even imagine the strength that it took to do such a wonderful thing. As the best friend of an adoptive parent, you can't even imagine the joy in both the parent & the child's life that you've given.

No offense to anyone - but I believe if you need these questions answered - maybe they can be done on the side.
I think, it is being taken away from the original post - which she wanted an anonymous poll - not ANOTHER debate on this friggin topic

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...
to all of the women who made a choice not to have a baby in their life (by abortion or giving it up) I hope you have found some peace.
to the one person (so far, and whomever comes after) that gave the child up for adoption, I pray as I am sure you do every day, that your baby was placed into the welcoming arms of a loving family.
to those who will get an abortion in the future, for whatever reason,
to those who will give a baby up for adoption in the future,
to all those children sitting in foster care b/c for some reason people don't WANT children older than infancy....I am so so sorry. may God bless you and keep you.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...
I voted. I never had one, thank god, I never had to face that decision. I do know people that have, and I know how hard it was on them, but it was the right decision for them at the time.
This poll reinforces for me why it is so important we preserve the right to choose.

I don't understand how you can do that 5 times! Assuming the fetus is healthy. Isn't 1x tramatic enough? And if it isn't... what the hell is wrong with you? How could you get yourself into that situation so many times I just don't get it.
