can you do anything?
Can they reimburse you for having to have another accountant refile/amend?

If the error was their fault, they should prepare the amended returns and work to get the penalties and interest waived or pay those fees. You would still be liable for the tax due. I am not sure they would give you money to pay another accountant.

ok, thank you for the reply. we switched accountants because we felt they were not answering our questions, etc. And in doing so our new accountant found the old one had us overpaying for 2010 and then left money for 2 past years, so the new account had to file an amendment to get our return.
Great for us, be we lost what we had to pay in accountant fees.

If we messed up, meaning but wrong numbers from what the taxpayer supplied then we would eat the penalties and interest and file an amended. Client would be responsible for the tax due. If the taxpayer neglated to give us information, forgot to give us a k-1, or a 1099 then we would charge them to amend the return and they would be responsible for all fees.
