If formula feeding which will you use and why?
I'm due in july with #3. I had a very hard time bf'ing with both of my children...so I'm pretty sure I'm going to formula feed (I exclusively pumped for the 1st few months with DD and DS, but I'm pretty sure that will be very difficult to do now that I will have 3) so I'm pretty sure I will be formula feeding.
I know there is similac and Enfamil..are their any other others? Which did you all use?
DD and DS were both switched pretty early on to Alimentum...so I used that for most of the time.
I also posted this on the parenting board...but don't know how to cross post.

I am due 6/5 and I am not sure what I am going to do whether I am going to breast feed or formula feed but I know the peds that I work for always recommends Similac first and if that does not work than Enfamil

I will FF again with this baby. I used Similac in the blue bottle last time and will start out with that again. I may switch a few months in to the target brand to save some money but haven't really made that decision yet.

The hospital I deliver at starts them on Similac Advance. So I'll use that until either we have to switch for whatever reason (reflux, spit up etc) or he ends up doing fine on it I'll stay with it

The hospitals usually use Similac. DS prefers Similac (he gets a little formula a few times a week), Enfamil did not agree with him, gave him too much gas and constipation. Meanwhile, my friend's DD won't take Similac, and prefers Enfamil.

I used Similac with the blue top, just because that's what the hospital started him on. I guess I'll do the same this time if that's how it starts although I think Enfamil gives out coupons way more frequently than Similac. I'll have to start paying attention to that.

I used Enfamil with dd#1 and plan to use Enfamil again with this baby. no real preference on why but I always seemed to find more coupons for Enfamil and better deals. They also have so many different ready to go sizes and powder single packets. Lots to choose from.

I planned on BFing. When DD didn't have any wet diapers after 24 hours, we gave her formula in the hospital. They gave us Enfamil Premium Newborn - RTF. We took some home and when we ran out, we immediately switched over to the UP & UP version (Target) of Enfamil Premium Infant and we've been using it ever since. I also pumped for 10 months for her but never established enough of a supply so we supplemented. I love Up & Up! It's soooo much cheaper than name brand and it doesn't have that formula smell nor does it stain like the name brand does.

I used similac sensitive with ds and plan on using it again with dc#2. It's just easier on their stomach and ped said there is not much difference between that and the original

Hopefully I can use similac because my cousin gave me a bunch of free formula, but ultimately what they start in the hospital on is usually what you stick with, unless they are issues....

I BF'ed but supplemented with formula when DD was 6 months - 1 year. We started with Enfamil because that's what we had free samples of from the hospital. But then we found out that the brand name stuff is made in the same factories as the generic and is exactly the same in quality, so we switched to the Target brand. DD liked it exactly the same and we saved a ton of money.

I supplemented with enfamil gentlease when my son was a few weeks old and he took to it very well! Never had any issues! I also switched to the Target generic brand bc it was a lot cheaper and it was the same Thing and he did fine! This time around I'm going to try and breastfeed for a while then probably switch to the gentlease again

Re: If formula feeding which will you use and why?
This is an old post I answered last year:
My DS suddenly stopped pooping at about 6 weeks. I was really struggling with the fact that BFing wasn't working, and DS had been supplemented with formula since birth since he was in the NICU. He started on Enfamil Newborn, and then switched regular Enfamil. When he stopped pooping, it took a while to figure if it was just simple constipation, infrequency, or something more. The ped suggested trying a sensitive formula, but I was concerned about the maltodextrin. After several bad episodes, I relented and tried the Similac Sensitive. It seemed to work for a few days, but then spitting up became an issue as well. We tried every trick under the sun to help ease the constipation, but NOTHING worked except stimulation, and I didn't want to rely on that alone. He started getting eczema and cradle cap, which made me think he might have an allergy.
The ped ruled out reflux, and I began trying other formulas as well. I scoured the web for reviews, articles, anything that could give me a clue as to A, why my kid wasn't pooping, and B, what the "best" formula was for constipation and spit up. We tried store brands, we tried Gerber, we tried everything. It seemed that he might have a milk allergy, but since he had no mucus or blood in his poop, the ped ruled that as well. She suggested Nutramigen, and it was by far the worst formula we tried - the spit up got to the point that he couldn't be moved or he'd projectile spit, and the potato smell was downright intolerable. It also made the constipation worse. We made it through two cans of Nutramigen, and I I had never been comfortable with the ingredients in traditional formulas, and the ped said she was going to put him on something like Elecare or Neocate if it got that bad. So, partially out of desperation and partially because of the article posted above, I decided to try organic.
I had done a lot of research and kept eyeing the Baby's Only brand. I picked it up at Whole Foods and figured it was worth a shot.
Within 2 days, I had a brand new baby.
The spit up stopped INSTANTLY. The eczema and cradle cap, GONE. He actually began pooping on his own. It was literally a miracle. He has been on it for about 2 months now and his skin is absolutely beautiful, clear and soft. He is just blossoming, both in height and weight. Everyone who knew of the troubles I was having are simply astounded at how well he responded to the Baby's Only Organic.
And the best part? I can READ the ingredients and it is cheaper than Enfamil or Similac. And I feel good about giving it to him.

My DS is now 16 months, we transitioned to milk at 11 months, and he is healthy, vibrant and off the charts with his milestones
So that's my story. Hope it helps a fellow mom on the endless formula quest.

I also had a hard time bf-ing my DD. She wouldn't take my bm for the first 4-5 months. So we used Enfamil Gentlease at first, then switched to Similac after about the 6 month mark when her gas problems went away and she tolerated my mb. It was half bm and half Similac in the bottle.
Also, we found that using the RTF formula was easier on her than mixing the powder.
Whoops, should add that I'm crashing this board lol

Re: If formula feeding which will you use and why?
The Kirkland/Costco brand because its the least expensive by far, and my ped told me its exactly the same as Similac. It was great for my DS when he was an infant (not for DD because she had milk enzyme intolerance). As long as the third doesnt have the allergy we will use the same formula.

I found this online: Nature’s One markets Baby’s Only Organic formula as a “toddler formula” rather than an infant formula (according to the company, this is done to encourage breastfeeding until age 1). Its products meet the same nutritional standards that the FDA sets forth for infant formula. Nature’s One is the only company marketing organic formula that is not a publicly traded corporation; the business is family-owned and operated.

I breastfed my last but had to supplement due to low supply. I personally used Earth's Best Organic formula as I was concerned about hormones and such in regular formula. I originally used Similac Organic but found out it was full of sugar. Earth's Best was much better and worked for us.
Good luck!!
