DH and i have yet to write our wills but my mother would get custody of DS, and if for some reason she was not able to, then DH's mother would get custody.

Our choices are bizarre, actually. My sister is to get custody of Christopher should anything happen to DH and I. Even though she is totally unsettled in her life, she would have my parents help.

If something should happen to us AND my sister, then Chris' sister Kerry would get him for similar reasons. She will also be his godmother if and when DS is ever baptized (not that that matters)

I worked for a law firm that did estate planning and they strongly suggested NOT chosing your own parents or your husband's parents.

Because of age I assume?

I think that's probably it. We chose DH's parents but were encouraged to have a back up in case anything happened to them.

We are struggling with the back up pic (my mom just doesn't have the energy).

My mother in law or my parents are the only people we trust with our children to raise them properly. We haven't chosen yet though.

My parents. If my parents are not able to care for my kids than my cousin (who is like my sister) and I know my aunt and uncle (who are like 2nd parents to me) would help in anyway needed.

I would want my kids to be raised closest to how I would raise them and want them to be raised with the same values, etc. that I was and plan on raising my kids and they are the only people, other than my parents I would trust to do that.

We recently completed our wills.

My parents will get DD. When they reach an age where they can no longer take care of her, then she will go to my cousin who is DD's Godmother.

I would prefer my parents to raise the boys, but I think DH would want his brother and SIL. I love them dearly but if they raised DS, I don't think my family would get to see them much.

Re: If, God forbid something happened to you and your spouse/SO, who would you like to raise your children?

we choose friends. it was not a hard decision for us. his sibling ives out of the country and mine are not in the right place in their lives now to be parents.

we thought grandparetns were not the best option as in our opinion they are too old to take our twins full time.

choose the best person /people. blood or not.

We chose DH's sister first, and my brother as a back-up. We are fortunate that we between the 2 of us, we have many siblings who we trust and believe will take great care of DS and keep them in a loving family.

Re: If, God forbid something happened to you and your spouse/SO, who would you like to raise your children?

My sister and her husband. My sister is one of the closest people in their lives and without a doubt she is the best possible choice in our situation.

Although my parents would do anything in the world for their grandchildren, their age and health precludes realistically choosing them.
