I think I needs me one of these! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

For basic decorations, paper, vinyl, letters.

Not the cake one. Is there one that does paper, vinyl and fabric? Or is the fabric a separate machine? I do a lot of fabric stuff but would want to do a good deal of paper stuff too.

Have not even begun to research. Thought I'd see what those with experience say!

ETA: Come to find out there's a plethera of cutting machines so if you have another, please do recommend!

Denise, OMG, my sister is selling hers!!! She needs to make room. Its the paper one. Do you want it? I can find out how much she is asking for (doubt a lot). Let me know ASAP because she was gonna post on ebay this weekend.

Thanks!

I think I would get the one that prints and cuts. I know the Silhouette machine does both. The thing that I don't like about the Cricuts is that you need to keep buying expensive cartridges to cut specific shapes you want (right?), so it's too expensive. And those cartridges never go on sale I've heard.

Whereas if you buy a machine that can print AND cut, then you don't have to buy separate cartridges and be limited to those.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here. I'd love one too, but one that prints and cuts.

I have the Expression and I LOVE it....I honestly dont know if it cuts fabric because I have never wanted to cut fabric. Oh and to answer PP's comment on the cartridges - yes they can be expensive, but they do go on sale from time to time at Michael's & A.C. Moore. I have 7 and I only paid regular price for one because I HAD to have it right then and there (brat Chat Icon )

I have the Expression. It cuts paper and it should cut vinyl but haven't tried. I did try fabric but I just couldn't get it to work...it should though. I originally had the Imagine which prints but returned it for the Expression. It does print but you still have to buy the cartridges in order to use it and they are even more expensive than the ones for the Expression. The thing was a monster too...HUGE!!! I was also told it's good for someone who has a specific spot for it because it needs to be re-calibrated each time to move it.

Oh boy! Thanks for this! I guess I have to get more involved in research!

I have a box full of Stampin' Up! stamps that I got suckered into because I wanted one thing but you have to get the whole collection. Sounds like a cartridge situation!

I have some looking into to do! Chat Icon

I have the Expression and love it. Not sure about what it cuts besides paper b/c I've never tried anything else. As for the cartridges, I buy them new on ebay for MUCH cheaper than retail.

Re: If I ask Santa for a Cricut (or other cutting machine), which one should I ask for?

I love my Expression. I also have a Gypsy that I use with my Expression. A big con of cricuts are the cartridges, which PPs have mentioned. I have only purchased cartridges online from discounted retailers. I find cricut really easy to use and have had no problems cutting cardstock and vinyl. I have yet to try chipboard or fabric.

That being said I still want a Silhouette so I can be free from cartridges. Part of what is stopping me from getting a Silhouette now is that I like being able to use a 12" x 12" mat in the cricut. I'm curious if I can cut licensed characters (Disney/Pixar) using a Silhouette because I know cartridges exist for this on the Cricut.
