If I wanted to bring my shih tzu to hospitals to visit
sick children to make them happy, how would I go about this? When my DH's grandma was dying of cancer and we knew she only had a week or so to live, she asked the head nurse if Dh and I could bring my pup to see her for one last time.. she loved him and she loved to play with his beautiful tail. The nurse agreed. I brought him in his bag and let him lay next to her while she pet him and it was amazing.. what happened next. I told him to go kiss grandma and he walked over very gently and climb up on her chest and licked her forehead. How touching is that?!
I would love to have my dog be some type of therapy dog that can make adults and children happy while sick in the hospital.

You can probably find info on line. I know there is a group that certifies dogs to do this type of work. A lot of greyhounds do it and we were thinking about getting Hailey certified a while back. Or, call the hospital or an old age home and ask them.
