If it's just you and DH- how often do you use the dishwasher?

I'm so happy to have one but DH thinks it's pointless when it's just us. I figure we have enough dishes to go through for a week, and we can run it when it's filled.

What do you guys do?

I usually put all of our dinner dishes, pots and pans in the dishwasher so I usually running every other day.

i handwash my pots and pans, so i just put our dishes, silverware and glasses in there- so we only run it about once a week, or every 5 days or so. i make sure to rinse the stuff well so it doesn't get all smelly in there....
its just nice to have to not have to worry about drying them right away, or leaving a ton of dishes out on the counter to dry....

we put everything but the pots and pans in the dishwasher, so we only run the dishwasher once a week. we have enough plates usually for the whole week or close to it. i hate washing dishes, so this works well for us.

I put everything including pots in & we eat home just about every night. We also bring breakfast, lunch & drinks to work in reusable containers so those go in too. I run it just about every night.

We put mostly everything in it except the pots and pans and we run it about twice a week.

We run it every two-three days. We do not wash pots/pans but we go through a lot of silverware, etc.

We usually run the dishwasher 1x - 2x a week depending on how much we are home.

We don't put pots and pans in there but, we do put Pyrex or Corningware if we use it.

We have 12 settings of our everyday china so it takes awhile to use it all.

DH kind of felt the same way your DH did about using the dishwasher for just the two of us but, he now loves how clean it gets everything.

We run in every 3-4 days or so. We don't use any paper or plastic for our meals so we make a lot of dishes. Even just snacks we eat on real plates. (I try to reduce as much garbage as possible.)

We don't run it that much, maybe 1X a week. Since it's just us, I usually just wash things after we eat, unless it's a big mess and I am being lazy.

Before DC, DW and I probably ran it every 2 or 3 days. Everything goes in there. Pots, pans, tea pot, plastic garbage can cover once in a while, stove drip trays, etc.

With 2 DC now, it's pretty much every night....

My DH didn't like the dishwasher until we had DD. Now that his hands are chapped from using Purel every two seconds he has stopped washing dishes and started loading the dishwasher. As a result, I run it 2x per week.

So does DH's claim hold water (so to speak ) that we're saving on electric and water bills here? How much is running it once a week really gonna affect the bill?

I can honestly say that in the 3 years in our house, I have ran the diswasher 10 times...With it being just DH & I, we don't generate enough to run it weekly. We do our dishes by hand & whenever we have company, we will use it.

I have 2 kids now, so I can run at least 2 loads a day, but when it was just DH and I, we would run it probably every other day.

Since it's just the 2 of us we usually run it 2 sometimes 3 times per week depending on if we've cooked an elaborate meals for the week.

2-3 times a week if we are cooking at home. I also put plastic containers frm what I take to work for breakfast and lunch. Lots of glasses and lots of silverware.

No matter how much you hand wash stuff, it can't compete with how hot the water will get with a dishwasher making it a perfect disinfectant. Your hands could never withstand the temperature.

If your dishwasher is fairly new and energy efficient, it will not make your bills go up that much. The biggest draw is your refrigerator.

It's a modern convenience not a luxury. Tell your DH that he can wash all of the dishes all of the time.

We just ordered a set of dishes so I anticipate using it more. Our only problem with it is that we'd run out of dishes/silverware now.

I had a dishwasher available to me for 7 years but never used it.

Depends, we love to cook so either daily or 5 days out of the week, it saves soooo much time, before I got the dishwasher we were washing the dishes and pots and pans EVERY DAY it was insane. I love my dishwasher

Hardly ever.

We wash our dishes by hand most of the time b/c it's just the two of us.

But if we have a big meal on a Sunday, we'll use the dishwasher for convenience (and we'll put the pots in the dishwasher too).

I always make DH rinse the plates and pots first though. He wouldn't normally, but I insist.

Every single day.............I'm old school italian.....I cook enough for an army every night...... that leaves plenty of pots,pans, and plates..........
