If newborn sleeps in your room...
how do you handle middle of the night feedings? I want DD to sleep in our bedroom when she's born, but I also want to try to let DH sleep once he goes back to work. Do you go into another room to BF? Did you get a smaller nightlight so it's not too disturbing? I really have no idea what to expect and am looking for some advice. Thanks!

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
I slept on the couch with the baby next to me in the bassinet for a few weeks for this very reason. It wasn't that bad because I had a csection and couldn't get into my bed anyways. My DD started STTN and I went back to the bedroom. The random times that she wakes up in the middle of the night, I go to the LR and feed as to not disturb DH. He doesn't even notice.

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
When I was BFing I just picked him up out of the bassinet and fed him in my bed. I tried a nightlight but I had latching issues as it was so I needed the light on. DH was fine with it though. Once we got the hang of it I just used the tv as a nightlight.

Same here. The bassinet had a little light that I would turn on, feed her, and put her back to sleep. DH had no problem sleeping through the whole routine - still doesn't!

ditto
but the first few weeks I didn't know about this instinct yet, so I'd take the baby and go into the living room.

DS sleeps in our room. Once I hear him fussing (to the point that I know he will not fall back asleep) I take him to his room to change him and then into the living room to feed him - our room is right off the living room.
DH never wakes up ... even when its his turn to handle the middle of the night feeding

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
Easy, my husband is in the spare room and will be until baby goes into her own room. He takes care of our son in the morning and has to go to work, so its his job to get a good nights sleep while its mine to take care of baby.
To be honest, the baby doesn't cry in the night, she just makes noises which wake me up. She will be with me in my room until she is six months old, at which point we will probably do sleep training...(controlled crying) we did this with our son and he is a fantastic sleeper!

This was/is what we do exactly.

DH hardly stirs when DS wakes during the night. I just bring DS into bed with me, feed him and put him back to sleep in his bassinet.

this is pretty much what we did too. If DH woke up, he'd just roll over and go right back to sleep anyway. DH is a pretty sound sleeper though, he sleeps with the TV on.

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
I bf in bed. There was never really any crying... I just put her on the boob, she ate and feel back asleep feeding. Then I put her back in the bassinet or if she fussed left her in bed with us... DH never really was disturbed. Six months later... still doing the same =)

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
I also had a light or I would put the tv on very low. At that age they eat and go right back to bed. It was never a distraction & we both had no problem going back to sleep.

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
i always feed the twins in our bedroom while DH sleeps.. accross our bedroom we used the babies lamp, and it helps keep the room dim but just enough light to not wake DH.. as far as when the babies wake up and cry, DH will wake up but then go right back to sleep..

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
I got the "Arm's Reach" Co-sleeper and dream fed. The baby's cries are so "gentle" in the beginning that DH never woke up from them. Also, he insists that subconsciously he knew he could not feed the baby so it did not wake him.

We have the glider and crib in our room.... DH never woke up when I did middle of the night feedings (which is every night, even now at 7 months). He is a sound sleeper.

Re: If newborn sleeps in your room...
James was in our room until he was exactly a month old. With the overnight feedings, either DH or myself would take him out of the bassinet and bring him into the nursery and change and feed and then bring him back when he was done eating.
