if you are using birth control..
what kind do you use? I am going on BC in a few weeks and was thinking of trying something other than the pill.
I have seen a lot of commercials for Mirena but not sure I like the fact of them placing it in you and the possibility of it falling out.

Re: if you are using birth control..
I have the Paraguard non-hormonal IUD. I have had it for almost 1 year.
It was no big deal getting it put in, just a little pinch. It did take my body a good 6 months to adjust to it. I had VERY heavy and long periods at first and questioned keeping it in. But I told my DH I would give it a year. Once my body got used to it, my periods are much better and I'm very happy with it!
I was on the pill for about 10 years before having my DC so my DH and I decided that I was done with hormones.

Re: if you are using birth control..
I just got Mirena last week. It was painful getting put in (but b/c I found out I have a tilted uterus). I haven't gotten my period yet but so far it's been alright.
I didn't feel right on the BCP anymore so I wanted to find something else.

Re: if you are using birth control..
I had the paraguard put in a few weeks ago. It hurt a lot and I almost passed out but they said it isn't as painful for women who have already had children. I had been on the pill for 10 years and didn't want to be on hormones anymore. So far so good.

Re: if you are using birth control..
I had the Mirena in for 5 years (recently had it taken out) and it was the best BC I ever had! I loved it! I don't know if I loved it more for the fact I didn't have to remember anything for 5 years or the fact I never got a period on it! I don't think it hurt putting in or taking out.
The only negative thing I can think of is the insurance I had at the time didn't cover the actual Mirena, just the insertion It cost me just about $500, but break that down over 60 months, and it was a bargain (less than $10 a month). My OB said it cost closer to $800 now but more insurances cover it now. I m ay look into it again.

Re: if you are using birth control..
I have a paraguard IUD. I am really happy with it. The first few months my period was VERY, VERY heavy but after three years it is fairly light and last 4 days. You have to check for the string of the IUD after your period each month to make sure it is still in place.
