My guess is he’s freaked out. Newly single after 30 years. This probably wasn’t going to end well no matter what based off that.
You said you want to date to escape- so just date!!! Date as many men as you want. Don’t worry about a next date! It should be fun and if you let go of what the next day will bring it probably will be more fun.

Thanks but to clarify I have been single for 5 years and have dated up a proverbial storm since then. It’s not fun anymore.

Don't waste any more mental energy analyzing this loser. You deserve better. So gross that a 52 yo is playing games. Did he recently split from his wife? I would steer clear at this point. This guy is marching around assshole town waving a giant red flag.

If it’s not fun anymore, I would take a break for a while. What’s the point if it isn’t fun anymore?
