If you DC has a "lovey" do you stockpile them?

My DS has taken to a blanket that we got from my friend's son like no other. He sleeps with it, smiles when he sees it, etc. This has been going on since he was about 8 weeks old.

We've been keeping an eye out for them, it is Tykes by Carter's blanket, I've checked Target, BRU and my mom checked Kohl's today, no luck. So DH decided to check ebay and found them...and they have been discontinuedChat Icon So he bought two at what I consider an outrageous price ($12.99 EACH plus $4.00 shippingChat Icon )

Is this just encoraging a bad habit? Or is this more normal then I think?

We have a backup of Sarah's lovey and I switch them off pretty regularly so they are worn pretty even so she doesn't notice if I need to toss one in the wash.

Andy has been switching between a few he really likes, he seems to leaning towards a boy ragdoll that Sarah never took to that BRU clearanced about a year and a half ago, so it will be a nightmare to find another one.

Re: If you DC has a "lovey" do you stockpile them?

you know, so funny you ask this because I read in a book to alternate stuffed animals every week or so so they don't get super attached. We have been sort of doing that but DH has extra love for two that he bought her...now she has been onlky asking for one and I am thinking I should buy some back-ups of this pink monkey before it's too late.

She only sleeps with them but she has been growing steadily attached...DH is no helpChat Icon

That's why DH tried ebay. Since this blanket was my friend's son's, we figure it is probably about 3 years old. We are going to try the outlet.

That is a good idea to switch them out, we were thinking we'd just save the second one for when this one got too worn out.

I can't believe he isn't even four months and he has a lovey alreadyChat Icon

DD never got attached to anything....but now she has a multitude of "friends" that sleep with her.

I think stocking up is a GREAT idea...my friend had a snowman for her DS, once it got completely mangled from being "loved on" and washed....she could no longer find it! She even contacted the import company!!!

I think I have 8Chat Icon
And i want to order more- we lost one at an amusement park, one ripped- she loves it and named it.
It is so funny, sometimes she will come across 2 at the same time and she gets so confused!

I leave one at daycare, too. And when it gets puked on it is nice to have a backup.

Re: If you DC has a "lovey" do you stockpile them?

Yes. My DD has a "baby" (pink lamb) that she's attached to and after one scare where we couldnt find it, I purchased another. I started rotating them so I could wash one and still have another handy and to get them similarly worn. I'd keep the extra in the drawer in my room. Then she discovered it so now she has 2 babies. I then got another in case one of the 2 got lost and she found that one too (bad hiding spot I guess LOL) but she likes the old ones bc they are broken in.

Hahaha the same thing happened to me. She needs to have two of her "babies" to sleep, so I own four! Boy was I glad the night she got sick in the crib and I could give her the replacements for comfort while I ran the others through the wash!

Bryan has a little teddy angel bear that is also a rattle. It goes everywhere with him.
Also, we'd all be lost without the "Fisher Price Puppy".

Re: If you DC has a "lovey" do you stockpile them?

My DD is attached to her doll, which worries me b/c it's discontinued so I can only find them on e-bay. I haven't bought an extra yet though, I hope I don't regret pushing my luck with that!

Luckily it's machine-washable and she only sleeps with her, we never let her take it out of the house and hardly ever out of the crib. But I totally understand stockpiling and have considered ordering an extra on e-bay (the only thing stopping me is the thought of her cuddling with something that who knows who owned and what they did to it Chat Icon I know it's my imagination but it skeeves me).

Re: If you DC has a "lovey" do you stockpile them?

DS has a carters frog washcloth puppet that he has slept with since he was about 11 months.

I got to buy 2 extra ones then they discontinued it. I have bought every single one I see on ebay and one time I placed a wanted ad on Craigslist looking for them and this lovely woman mailed me one for free.

We have about 6 extras now. He only uses one and that one looks as if he has been beaten down. My DS gave him the name Stink Frog. The name fits him well. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If you DC has a "lovey" do you stockpile them?

Yes, so far we have 3 pink puppy dog blankets. I just ordered 2 off ebay since it's become clear that DD will not sleep w/o it. I am entertaining the idea of ordering a few more too since I'm afraid of it getting discontinued.
