questions for you:
I've never been and have been invited to one. The invite says to bring 6 dozen different cookies.

is that a lot? Chat Icon i thought maybe it was but i have nothing to compare it to.

do the cookies have to be fancy cut-outs, or unusual or can they be as simple as a choc chip or any drop cookie?

what do you store the cookies in when you bring them-tupperware, tin, ziploc? which is easiest ?

i know dumbest questions ever, i just want to be properly prepared Chat Icon

TIA!

Ive actually never been but dying to go LOL. But I was under the impression you make 1 type of cookie but a lot of it. Then everyone brings a 1 type of cookie and you swap and at the end you would have however many types of cookies that you have people! As for bringing it, I would think tupperware since you are going to be bringing some home as well!

If you go to or ever been to a cookie swap..i have questions

I just hosted one last weekend for the first time!

I ended up with 8 guests, and I had asked everyone to bring 6 dozen of the same cookie. We ended up with:

Italian rainbow cookies
Vanilla bean/raspberry sandwich cookies
Thumbprint cookies
Cappuccino cookies
Cookie dough truffles
Rocky road cookies
Coconut slice cookies
Chocolate crinkle cookies

We tasted some, then everyone took home the rest.

People brought cookies on trays and in Tupperware, but I also had small boxes if anyone needed.

I plan on doing it every year though-we all had a great time

I've never been but as the pp's said, I thought the idea was for each person to bring several dozen of the same cookie (but a different type for each guest). Has this person ever hosted one before?

we do it with my family and friends. it adds up to be a lot, so we do bring 1/2 a dozen of the same cookie for each guests plus one 1/2 dozen for the swap party.
They do not have to be fancy cut outs
And you can store them however you like, i go to the dollar store and buy cute boxes.

we also include the recipe with our cookies.

We used to do this at work. Everyone was told to bring 6 dozen of the same cookie, separated into dozens. We numbered each type of cookie, drew numbers out of a hat and then you took a dozen of that number cookie. This way, no one felt like people "didn't like" their cookies and everyone ended up with a dozen of 6 different types of cookies.
People brought their cookies on plates, others in disposable tupperware or holiday treat bags that you can buy at places like Michaels (that's what I did). It was pretty fun, I was bummed when we stopped doing it!

I've gone to a few of these and the instructions were always to bring a large quantity of 1 type of cookie.

It usually depends on how many people are in the swap. Everyone brought a Tupperware to take samples home with the recipe. It didn't gav to be anything fancy, but it couldn't be something like slice and bake. It had to be something you actually make. I had a lot IFSP fun with it.

Regarding types of cookie - you can bring whatever you want.

It's fun to have a variety, so something a little more unusual would be nice.

When I did it, someone made these souped-up brownies (with caramel, nuts, etc.) and they were AMAZING. Kind of a nice addition to all the cookies. Someone also had oreo balls, traditional gingerbread, choc chip, etc.

Have fun!
