If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
did you have it at the "typical" time - in the morning or did you have one in the afternoon?
Did you serve "typical" bris food - bagels, lox, etc?
Have you attended a bris that wasn't in the morning? What type of food was served?
Thanks!

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
I can't remember and Mason is only 7.5 mons old so it wasn't that long ago. I want to say around 1 PM ish... We're not Kosher, but we did have it catered by a Kosher deli since it was a Bris. Deli meats, rye breads, also bagels and different salads... tuna, egg, etc.
I think we did it when the Moyle was available

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
Thanks, ladies. It is difficult to know how much to order because it's not like you have an RSVP list and know exactly how many people are coming? If we have one (we're team green), I know it will be relatively small, but if a lot of friends from my job and my mom's friends from her job (she works at a Jewish nursery school so I can see a lot coming) suddenly come, it will def jump the number.

We were on team green. One thing we did wrong was not look into Moyles beforehand. We were lucky my MIL and my mom met a couple at the hospital who did a ton of research and gave her the info on the Moyle they picked. Funny thing is it wound up being the same Moyle that did DH DH did all the calling in the hospital and got the time the Moyle was available. Pretty much we took the "birth announcement" list (not everyone) and sent out emails and made phone calls. Because it was during the week we didn't expect a ton, but a good amount showed. Just order for a little less than who you're inviting. Worst case is you take home the extra food (we had none). You'll need it anyway since you can't do too much. Good Luck and Congrats!

ours ended up being on a sunday so we had about 80 people there. if it were during the week i was assuming half would show up. talk to the caterer...they do this often and know how much food you will need. you just have to give an estimate.

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
both of my nephew's were in the afternoon. You have to do what is convenient for both your family and the mohel. He may have other bris's that day and need to juggle... he can't control when the babies are born either. Important family members will be there no matter what the date and time, and everyone else, I hate to say it, really doesn't matter! My sister only "invited" immediate family - she wanted it small and intimate. I recommend ordering from a kosher deli wether you are kosher or not - it can't hurt, and use paper plates/silverware. Definitely over-order, and you can send family members home with sandwiches/bagels,etc if there are leftovers. I didn't object to having lunch/dinner for a couple of days after my nephew's bris. And definitely research mohels before hand. Once you pick one, you call him when the baby is born and work out the date and time.

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
Thank you! Yes, I've already done the Mohel research and have two numbers and names already packed in the hospital bag, ready to go! If we do end up having a boy, I think I will delegate the bris responsibilities to my mom - it will be at my house, but I will let her deal with all the food ordering and stuff because I'm sure I'll have a lot of other things on my mind - lol!

Good idea to have at your home. We had at my in-laws b/c they live close by and have a bigger home. Get the nice paper plates and cups from BJ's or Costco. They look real, but plastic. I mostly stayed in the upstairs guestroom and came down once in a while to greet guests. A friend of mine had a nurse so she was able to spend more time with the guests.

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
We have a ranch house so unfortunately, I can't get away too privately from guests, but I'll do my best - lol. Yes, I was def planning on ordering kosher (even though we're not.) We're in FL, so it's not going to be a huge amt of family or friends - if we were still up in NY, it would be a lot bigger. But, like I said, depending who comes from work will make the difference. I have no prob feasting on Jewish deli for a few days afterwards!

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
First of all, mazel tov! I can't believe you are nearing the end already!
DS1's bris was at 3:30 PM on a Sunday (it was opening day for the Jets - I DO NOT recommend that time on opening day of any local sports team ). We did it based on the time the mohel was available. We did Deli platters and wraps (meat).
DS2's bris was during the week and we had it at 10:30. Since DS was a NICU baby, we had an extra week to plan the bris - a bris is done a week after he is released from the NICU - so we did it at a time that was convenient for us . We also did meat for that one too (called for 10:30, started at 11, at around 11:45)

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
I've never been to a bris that wasn't in the morning. In our family, they are either EARLY, EARLY, EARLY so people can go to work, or if it happens to fall on a Sunday, 11:00am.
Order more than you would expect, and then you can always bring food home which is always so helpful and good to have when you have a newborn in your house!

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
most of the bris' that I've been to have been in the morning, that being said, I was at a bris that was at 5 PM and they served a lot of israeli food (it was an israeli bris) salads, hummus, pita, falalfel, fish etc....
The morning ones have always had the staple breakfast foods

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
I think it depends-- but usually around "brunch" time...
Although I did have a friend who did it on the early side to deter people from coming since both her parents and IL's like to invite EVERYONE...

I think ours was around 12 or 1. It was during a huge snowstorm too. We had the typical bagels and lox.
ETA: It was on a Sunday and everyone was coming from out of town.

Bris after noon = deli
I have been to many and both kinds.

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
You can have a Bris at any time but I believe it's most typical in the late morning. Ezra's bris happen to fall on erev Rosh Hashanah so we had to have it early so people could get home to prepare for the holiday. It was at 11am at my parents house (did not want to have to clean and prepare my house, was way too exhausted for that), and we served lox and bagels from Bagel Boss (we are kosher to begin with). If you are having a Bris later in the day I would serve deli.
Congrats and Good luck!

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
Michal, my nephew's bris last year was in the morning and afterwards, they served breakfast foods, dairy, fish-things like that.
If you have it in the afternoon, you can do deli from Toojays-that was what we were thinking of if we had a . There is a pretty good bagel store on Powerline and Camino-Nestors. And Flakowitz on 441. They all have catering menus and it seems that afternoon would be deli.
ETA-ugh, I just realized all of these are kosher style!

Re: If You Had a Bris for your Son...(or if you've been to a lot)
I was on team green but we had a few mohls lines up. We ended up having ours at 6:00 pm on a thursday. We had kosher deli and it was great. I had a friend that had one at this time and thought it was so great so people can come after work...
