Re: if you had a successful VBAC, please come in...
I had a vbac with my DD in May 2006. My first DC was a c/s because he was breech. He turned out to be 9 lbs 7 oz at 37 weeks, but that's not why I had him by c/s!
For the vbac, I had to go into labor on my own, I could not be induced, I had to have her size monitored closely (OB wanted her to be less than 8 lbs or so), and I wasn't allowed to go past 41 weeks. At that point, I would have been scheduled for a repeat c/s.
I went into labor at 38.5 weeks. It came on quick and strong. I got to the hospital at 7 cm and requested the epidural ASAP! I got the epi and was 10 cm shortly after that! I had the epidural on the whole time while I was pushing because my OB said I was pushing correctly and had no issues (sometimes they lower it or turn off the epi so you can feel the contractions to push). I did have to push for 3 hours, but I finally pushed her out when the doc suggested he help by getting forceps! While we didn't need them, it was great incentive for that final push!
Recovery wise? No comparison, so much better! I was up and going to the bathroom on my own in the labor and delivery room. I went home after 2 days and felt like myself a few days later.
I recently had my 3rd and encountered an unplanned emergency where they needed to get the baby out quickly, so I had to have another c/s because my OB wouldn't induce (because of the prior c/s, even though I had a vaginal birth after that). It was tough going through a c/s recovery again! Took me a few weeks to feel like myself again! I think I pushed it too hard too soon, especially since I had 2 at home this time.
