Re: Please tell me your successful VBAC story...
I am interested in one too, and not pregnant
Next time I am out, I am picking up Ricki Lake's new book...she was on The Doctors this week promoting it.
Big section on VBACS.
End result-statistically an amnio is way more dangerous to baby.
Very small chance that a VBAC can go wrong, but if it does, it goes very very wrong.

I watched that episode of the Doctors as well. IMO, I didn't like the way the female doc (the gyno) treated them. I thought she was really harsh to Ricki and the other woman (her name is escaping me at the moment).
Anyway, I do want to pick up her book. And my doula was telling me there is an organization about VBacs. When she sends me the email with the link I will pass it onto you, Janice. She said a chapter JUST opened on Long Island.

Re: Please tell me your successful VBAC story...
glad you watched!
The female dr wasn't really listening to Ricki at all.
I am in Charlotte, but one of the moms I have met had an emergency c for #1.
for #2, she had a home birth with a midwife! she said it was fine. (that was in Texas)
pregnant with #3 when she moved to Charlotte, had to drive 50 minutes from home to find a midwife who agreed to another VBAC.
But saw her a month ago, another sucessful VBAC.
chelmger had one for #2.

Yes I did! There's a link to her birth story in my profile. You can FM with specific questions if you want, but I have posted info before if you search on here!
Just wanted to add that my doc is an OB - I did not use a midwife.

I was very unhappy with my last midwife. Not sure if you and I ever got into specifics about it. But I can always give you the details.
My Doula was AMAZING. I love her so much we still talk to this day! And I have every intention of using her again when the time comes.
As a matter of fact, I spoke with her last night. She gave me the name of a midwifery practice she HIGHLY recommends. I'd be happy to pass the info along when we get together

Re: Please tell me your successful VBAC story...
I don't have one --- but the mom on the Duggars (18 kids) has had plenty of VBACS. It really matters if you are planning on having more than 3 kids as C-sections become much more dangerous after 3.

Re: Please tell me your successful VBAC story...
I was not able to VBAC b/c I was not dilating after several hours in labor, but my Dr. was fully on board with me wanting to VBAC, and was even letting me go until I went into labor before making a decision.
I will tell you this as per my conversations with her:
She does not let a VBAC go past the due date, so she always schedules a c-section for the DD.
She will not allow a VBAC to be induced or to get any meds to try to progress labor (this is why I could not VBAC, I would have needed *help* dilating).
If at any time during the PG or the delivery there is a real medical threat that increases the chance of a rupture (irregular labor, prolonged labor, stress on the uterus, etc) she will not allow the VBAC.
My doctor is Hanauer. I will also let you know that Dr Dolisi, her partner, is not as easily convinced to do a VBAC, and is way more conservative than she.

Re: Please tell me your successful VBAC story...
My mother had a successful VBAC in 1992, unmedicated too.
I don't think doctors are very accepting of VBACs anymore, and I really think you need a midwife to be successful.
I used Dale Cook, she is very pro-VBAC, I don't remember what her rates were, but I think close to 90% of mothers who attempted a VBAC with her were successful. I had a wonderful homebirth with Dale last year, I think she is just amazing.

Does anyone know the actual criteria to be a candidate for a VBAC? or rather what will make your OB say No?
