Re: If you had the choice....

I think I would like to do part-time work if I had the choice but I don't. My DH would LOVE to be a SAHD and he would be fabulous at it [he is amazing with his children from his 1st marriage.] I wish we could afford it. Chat Icon

Re: If you had the choice....

I was a SAHM for the first 10 months. I then got the opportunity to work 2 days a week and I took it. I love it, I love getting the best of both worlds, with DS and getting out of the house for two days.

Re: If you had the choice....

I would love to and maybe work PT hours, but I don't think that is realistic right now. We are trying to get ahead, get a house, but maybe for #2....expecially with the cost of day care!

Re: If you had the choice....

Somedays I say yes, somedays I say I'm not cut out for it. So, I guess in an ideal world I'd work PT.

Re: If you had the choice....

I think I have the best of both worlds, I work from home Mon.(evening) wed.(day) thurs.(day) with the babysitting services of Mom, MIL, and DH. I make good money and get to be a SAHM at the same time. I am very lucky!

If I had the choice, I would be a SAHM in a HEARTBEAT. I'd work on opening my own business or get a part time job.

I'd love to .. or maybe work a couple days and be home a couple of days but we can't afford it at all and I don't even think down the road unless something drastically changes

Re: If you had the choice....

I'd love to...and that's the plan for us.
Though after the summer I'd be open to doing some PT work - if my job goes for it.

I don't think so. I think I have the ideal job being a teacher since I'm off so many holidays and the whole summer. I get home at a decent hour so I don't feel like I'm missing too much.

Re: If you had the choice....

After being home for 8 weeks I dont think I could do it.

I love my son and seeing him and taking care of him but I just dont think I am that person who can handle not working at least part time!

NO. I love working PT. I have the choice and I choose to work for 4 or 5 hours a day for 4 days.

Re: If you had the choice....

Never. Despite the fact my husband says he wants me to sometimes. I worked too hard to put myself through school and get where I am in life. I love the fact that I have something to feel proud of and that makes me feel successful. I love my job and the people I work with. I would not want to give it up.

I see nothing wrong with putting a kid in daycare whether you need to or want to. My kid will be in daycare at least part time. We are fine with that.

Re: If you had the choice....

I thought that was what i wanted last year when i was PG. i am now a SAHM. becoming a SAHM was A LOT HARDER for me than i could ever have imagined! i find that it can get very lonely at times...i also found that for me i missed my job (school librarian). i felt completely lost in the beginning w/o work.
it has gotten a lot better now but i am going back in sept.
also. my DH lost his job while i am on maternity leave so being a SAHM is no longer an option..

Re: If you had the choice....

I would do it in a heartbeat. I think "career woman" isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'm so sick of corporate America, I'd leave and never look back if it weren't for the darn student loans and such. Right now I have a great boss, but in sync with corporate BS, he may not remain my boss by the end of the year, I could end up with some psychopath (like at my last job where I started with a great boss and ended up working for a nut bucket)... hello - reorg! So sick of it!! Can't imagine dealing with this and coming home to a family that's looking to me to take charge. I'll be dead (or just insane) by the time I'm 40! I worked my butt off myself to get my Master's degree and climb the ladder, but if I could stay home and raise my family - I so would! I fear I'll have nothing left in me for my kids when I get home from work. The daycare thing hasn't been sitting well with DH or I.

DH and I have been talking about me working part time though. My industry does have some part time and job-sharing positions here and there. May be my next gig. This way getting a babysitter to come to the house won't be quite as $$ painful.

This is the boat I am in as well! I go back to work in less than 4 weeks and i am still not sure what I want to do...

Unlike alot of posters I would actually like to be home more when my child gets older! I want to be able to be class mom and take them to parties and such! I want to really be there when they WANT me there. I feel like now my son really doesnt care if I give him his bottle or someone else! Dont get me wrong he knows me from others but overall as long as his needs are met he is happy. But when he is 4 or 5 I dont want him to feel like Mommy isnt with him when she should be.
