Originally we werent going to get ceiling fans. Then we rethought it and thought we would want it on days that its not super hot. We are so glad we did becuase we got really nice looking fans at Lowes.

I don't like the look of them either, but we have one in every bedroom. I actually have them on probably 7 or 8 months out of the year.

I voted to let him have the ceiling fan if this is the one thing he has asked for, it seems like its not that big of a sacrifice on your part to give it to him. His comfort would trump aesthetics in this case
I also had no idea so many people were so vehemently anti-ceiling fans! It does serve a purpose, so probably not worth getting so worked up over if it will make your DH happy and able to sleep comfortably
We have one in our bedroom and i LOVE it.. just enough of a breeze to keep the air moving on those nights when you don't want to have the AC blasting all night.

i would prefer a regular light fixture but the ceiling fan is more practical....i have one in every room except my kitchen and dining area...i live in FL, you need them here...
as far as cleaning them goes, just vacuum the blades every week or every other and you'll be fine...mine never get gross with the dust...

Ah, clearly you've underestimated my passion for aesthetics!
A comfortable home is my first priority, but I believe it's possible to attain this and keep to my standard for design.
I've actually decided on a chandelier and the floor fan. My husband assured me that he doesn't care which direction the air is coming from, so long as there's air blowing in the room during the in-between months.
Thanks all for your input.

You can get the best of both worlds. There are chandeliers that can attach to ceiling fans. This is an example of one.Attachment kit

I am coming into this late but so glad you made that decision! I hope DH lets me do the same when we get to that point. I absolutely LOVE chandeliers in the bedroom!

I would just suck it up and get the ceiling fan. If he lets you have full control over all the decorating and this is the one thing that he asks for let him have it.
as far as dust, clean the fan !!!

Unfortunately there are too many little fingers around here that a stand fan isn't an option so ugly ceiling fan it was. Although they are making them better looking nowadays.

haha This thread is like icicle lights and above the ground pools - I had no idea they were so despised. Some of them are very utilitarian and just not attractive. I have what I think is a nice looking one in my LR but if you hate them, you hate them. They do provide a needed breeze sometimes. Esp in the bedrooms. We have CAC but there are many times that it is not needed but some movement of air is definitely in order.
