If you have a corner property
I have a corner, and dont have this problem at all, or at least I havent noticed. There are a ton of kids in my neighborhood and they dont even try. They all stay in the street. I wouldnt mind if they did though...

I grew up on a corner house and lived behind an elementary school.
EVERYONE cut across.
We were also the bus stop corner. So EVERYONE waited on out porch when it rained. Kids waited on that porch years later after we graduated. The kids winded up running all over the place. During the fall they would throw acorns at each other.
My mom called the school district and asked to change it. All what she needed was one kid to slip while they were chasing each other.
We also would have cars cut across the line. My dad made this metal strip that he welded nails to and painted green and would lay it on the corner. My dad was a savage.
your dad sounds awesome!
He is... He wouldn't do it now... But back then, we had a really nice lawn.

If you have a corner property
My aunt lived in a corner house and everyone cut across it. It didn't bother them and I don't think it would bother me. We have kids on our lawn now all the time, not close by the door but towards the street. I don't care, I'd rather have them playing on the grass then in the street. When we are walking around the block I have my daughter walk on the lawns. The only people that cared were the cranky old people lol.
