If you have a family member watch DC..... (very sensitive question)
What would you do if the family member passed away? Do you have a backup plan?
I get into really 'interesting' conversations with moms in my neighborhood. We have no family around, but many neighbors do and they couldn't answer what they would do if they lost that family member.
Sorry to be such a downer.

It happened to friends of ours.
The father ended up stayign home with the kids for a while (probably almost a year I think.....there were 3 kids all about same age). Then they started day care eventually.

Since we have no family or back up plan, you try to find babysitters that people recommend, look at daycares around, etc... They are some daycares that back up daycare for emergencies. It is for regular work shifts though. DH saves some vacation times for emergencies knowing it's only temporary situations.

I definitely know some people who do not have back-up plans.

Re: If you have a family member watch DC..... (very sensitive question)
It sort of happened to us...when I was trying and even when I was PG, my mother was going to be our sitter. She was adamant about it. Right before I had the baby, she got really sick and had to go into the hospital. All of a sudden, I had to worry about a backup and I was on bedrest. After I had DS, I started looking at daycares and ended up speaking to a neighbor who now watches DS. I have to admit that while searching I was getting pretty stressed out. I wasn't sure how we were going to afford a daycare or if we would even find someone we truly liked.

My ILs watch DD. I do not have a back up plan g*d forbid one of them was to pass away.
I think DH would prob stay home for a while b/c he makes less so it wouldn't be too hard on us financially.
Then we would prob look into getting DD into at in home daycare.

it happened to me. It was sudden and unexpected. She was 50. We had no back up. I became a SAHM for while.
