If you have a full bathroom on the 2nd floor of a 2 story house...
we have a new bathroom upstairs , and have such a problem with the shower..
its complicated because it gets hot, but takes forever to heat up.. and sometimes it will get cool again while showering.. that is the WORST!!
is this normal? does it happen to anyone else?

We have a full bathroom on the 2nd floor of our house and have never had this kind of issue
seems like your water heater temp might need adjusting? if not, i'd call a plumber

Do you have a seperate water tank? If you do, there is a temperature control dial you can adjust. I know when my husband is on his energy saving kick, he messes with that dial and I never have enough hot water for my shower.

Do you have a hot water tank or tankless hot water?

We have a full bath upstairs and the water takes a minute or two to heat up but once it does, it's HOT! We have really hot water up there, never runs out while we are showering.
Do you have a separate hot water heater? My parents don't and their hot water does run out sometimes and then takes a few minutes to come back.

Re: If you have a full bathroom on the 2nd floor of a 2 story house...
Our water gets REALLY hot in the house. When I run the shower, I can actually hear the difference when it gets hot.
I have noticed that if our heat is coming up when the shower, I either get no hot water (have to wait a few minutes and try again) or lose it half way through. I have found that if I make sure none of the heat zones are active when I get in, it makes a huge difference.
Maybe that is your problem too?

i am going to try this. it does make sense.
because the bathroom was finished over the summer last year and we had no problems.. and this whole winter it has been so different.

We had the same problem, we ended up having to buy a water buffer and put it in the closet under the stairs.

Maybe you are just running out of hot water then and it takes time for the water to refill and get hot again. I would call a plumber to get a separate hot water heater (gas powered if you have gas in your house) but first take a trip out to Lowes/HD and see if you can check out prices just so you are informed.
In the mean time, try to shower with water that is slightly cooler so you don't run out of hot water as fast.
