If you have a live-in nanny or
a long term houseguest (something along those lines?) what do they do when you're home? Like in the evening and with dinner.... Do they eat dinner with you, sit on the couch and watch TV with you in the evening... or just stay in their room or another room?
I'm just curious what the etiquette is for that. Also, they wouldn't be expected to do anything for DC in the evening or overnight... just while we're at work during the day, and they would be going home on the weekends. But DH and i aren't sure what people generally do in that situation- we like to lay on the couch together watching TV and eat dinner together and catch up- it would be weird having another person there for that and we dont want it to interfere in 'us' time. any advice or feedback?

Re: If you have a live-in nanny or
can you provide a tv in the room? that way she didnt have to be in your family time. I live with some family for a short time and I used to eat outside so that was not a problem but when I got to the house I would just stay in my room and watch TV and do whatever I want.

Yes there would definitely be a TV in her room (there's not one yet, but we were planning on picking one up) plus we also have another TV room so if we're in one, she could be in the other. I just dont want her to feel like if we come into 1 room that she needs to jump up and leave (b/c i'd want her to hang out too) but i also want to make sure DH and i still have our own time together too

Re: If you have a live-in nanny or
We have an 18 year old that lives with us.
She definitely helps with Christopher, but she isn't his nanny or anything.
We are short on room, so she sleeps on a futon in our dining room.
She hangs out with me a lot, but she also has her computer and spends a lot of time on it.
She's in college right now, but she is coming back in November and December

Re: If you have a live-in nanny or
We had a baby nurse for 3 weeks when DD was a newborn. We would invite her to eat dinner with us (although we all ate dinner at different times when DD was a nb). She usually made her own dinner as she liked her food cooked a certain way. If I was watching a show that I know she liked to watch as well, I would invite her to watch with us. However, for the most part, when DD didn't need attending to, she would watch TV in the nursery (she slept in DD's room). I know a live in nanny would have their own room. So I would just make sure you provide that person with their own TV to watch. It would be nice to invite that person to eat dinner with you, but you don't have to. Our baby nurse even though was only with us for 3 weeks, really was like part of our family.

Dont worry I am pretty sure that after spending the day working and taking care of your baby (if that is the case) she would want to be on her own and do her own thing.

Re: If you have a live-in nanny or
We have a baby nurse (she came after I was discharged from the hospital and is leaving tomorrow - so she has been here for 2 weeks). We make dinner for her. We always ask her to eat with us at the kitchen table, but she prefers to eat in the dining room so that is where she eats. She does not like tv, but will sit with us or stay with the baby. We talk to her but she also give us our privacy.
