How many interviews did you do? I posted an ad yesterday and we got a ton of responses so far.

I think we had about 7. My advice to you is to not even waste your time with the ones you aren't interested in. The ones that sound like a possiblity you should have a phone screen with them first. Get together a list of all of your most important questions and ask them over the phone. If they still sound promising, then bring them in.

When we interviewed nannys I paid attention to whether they were on time (of course), if they took their shoes off when they came in, if they washed their hands and if they asked to hold the baby. If they didn't do all of these things I immediately ruled them out. Then we obviously had a list of questions, and I checked all their references and did the background check. I also asked for photo ID, a copy of the background check and a copy of her ss card.

I would also use the phone as another screening measure. You can ask additional questions, or get a feel for the person that way as well.

For my first nanny I had one interview, my second nanny three interviews, my current nanny one interview. I got a ton of responses from the site and then weeded them out by asking for a resume. Many never sent a resume which to me was reason enough not to interview them.. the ones that did send the resume allowed me to see their experience in detail.
