If you have mitral valve prolapse
Do you get chest pains? How often does it happen? What does your doc say about it.

Re: If you have mitral valve prolapse
I have MVP and I do get chest pains occassionaly. I don't think they are from the MVP though - it's more from anxiety.

Re: If you have mitral valve prolapse
I have it and I had gone along time w/o much pain but recently I felt like my heart was racing, pounding, ached, I couldn't catch my breath...and this was going on pretty much everyday. I ended up in the ER. MVP and stress/anxiety go hand in hand. My doctor put me on a benzo (klonopin) for my anxiety and for the last three weeks, I've had no problems.

Thanks for telling me, I will mention to my cardiologist and see what he says. Maybe I need to change doctors b/c my cardiologist "can't figure out why I am having chest pains"

Re: If you have mitral valve prolapse
I get chest pains...which is what caused me to go to a dr. and get diagnosed when I was a teenager. Sometimes it feels like a stabbing pain, others times like a cramp.

Re: If you have mitral valve prolapse
i have it, years ago when i had really bad anxiety and my heart would beat so fast, i ended up in the ER. I went to a cardiologist that did tests and found nothing other than me having a rappid heart rate. I took meds for a year, saw the dr again and she said nothing so i switched dr.s & the second one found that i had MVP right away. I stayed on the meds for 3 years until i was TTC, then came off. i was on atenelol the longest. now i have not taken any meds for almost 2 years. i get palps, rapid heart rate, and sometimes pains- but i know whats causing it so it doesnt freak me out as much. Then i try to get some more rest and take it easy if symptoms act up.

It definitely got worse after I had the baby, the doc says that's normal, b/c pregnancy puts so much strain on your heart and it's takes some time for it to recover.

Maybe I need to change doctors b/c my cardiologist "can't figure out why I am having chest pains" definitely change cardiologists if they cannot give you any concrete answers. There are a ton of studies on MVP & side effects, and your Dr should be helping you feel better about understanding it, not more anxious
