If you invite people over for dinner .....
and tell them to be at your house at 7 pm what time should I have them actually sit down at the table for dinner?
I will also have appetizers ready for when they walk in the door between 7 and 7:10
TIA

I'd say at least an hour or so after arrival time........ You don't exactly want to rush them to the table to eat dinner.
After some BS'ing.......eating some appetizers and drinking some cocktails...........before you know it.......sometimes an hour has already passed.

This works when you have one of those great kitchens where people can sit and watch you cook and you can interact with them.
I have a tiny little hovel. I invite people about a half hour before meal time. I set them up on the deck or in the living room with wine, apps and my husband and kids. Then I finish the meal, plate it and get it on the table no more than a half hour later so that I can hang a little with our guests!

Re: If you invite people over for dinner .....
I would plan to serve around 7:30ish. I hate getting invited for dinner and then sitting around for a really long time before eating unless the host mentions something before hand. Like last week I went to a friend's for dinner and they were going to order take out - so I knew it would be a while before we ate.

I would have app's just about ready so that when they get there we can greet one another and then sit to hot app's.
