If you open a door to enter a room
do you close it when you leave?
I share an office with 3 other people. We are right across from the mens restroom, it is really cold in the hall, and there are 3 industrial freezers in the room next to ours, making the hallway really loud. For those reasons I close our door almost all the way.
Throughout the day people come in to speak to one of us, or they will peak in and see the person they are looking for isn't here. Every one of them then leaves the door wide open. I must get up at least 15 times a day to close the door.
Is it rude that they don't close the door after themselves or am I just overly sensitive. If I go in someones office when the door is closed, I close it after me.

I try to.
If it's someone else's office- before I leave, I'll ask "do you want the door open or closed?"
How about just saying to them- as they leave- "hey, can you pull the door shut a bit?"

Yes--if its closed when I go in, I'll typically close it when I leave. Sometimes I'll just ask "Do you want this open or closed?"

Oh, I've asked people to close it on their way out. They'll do it that time and then never again. I don't want to sound like a broken record.
It's worse when I am in here alone (like now) and someone peeks into see if someone is here. They leave, and leave the door open before I even turn my head to see who is at the door.

I always ask. At work my boss, the other attorney, & my MIL all have offices with doors. Whenever I leave their room I ask if they want the door open or closed.

I generally leave the door the way I find it.
Just keep telling them to close the door - they'll get it eventually. Or can you put a sign on the door?

There already is a sign on the door that says "please keep door closed". It was actually there before they made this our office.
I guess I'll just have to be the broken record.

There already is a sign on the door that says "please keep door closed". It was actually there before they made this our office.
I guess I'll just have to be the broken record.
Change the sign. Change the font, change the color, change the size.
Old signs are easily overlooked since they seem like furniture after a while. Change it up!

Ditto... i always ask my boss if he wants me to close the door again or leave it open...

Me too. I could see having to shut the door over and over getting annoying really fast.

I try to leave it as I found it.. if it's 1/2 open, i'll leave it that way...
I just figure there is a reason why it is open or closed so it's only respectful to make sure it's left the way that person wants it.

I do. Our hallway is not insulated and it's FREEZING. I get annoyed when others don't close it.
