if you send your dc to a preschool/nursery school program question Re: illness
Would send your DC to school if you knew the stomach bug was going around?? especially of you will be home. I catch the stomach bug just saying the words and DS school has the stomach bug going around. I really dont want to send him for fear that we all will catch it BUT at the same time I feel like he will have to go to school and deal with this at some point. I just dont know what to do.

i'm probably more neurotic than most when it comes to the stomach bug but i am absolutely PETRIFIED of throwing up. it is one of my biggest fears and if i could keep my kid home, i would. that said, your luck you'll keep your dc home and as soon as you send him back he'll come home with it. good luck keeping it out of your house. why can't someone come up with a vaccine for it?!!!!

I thought I was the only one with a fear of throwing up/stomach virus. Honestly at 2, I wouldn't send them.

Re: if you send your dc to a preschool/nursery school program question Re: illness
I'd keep him home for a couple days, wouldn't think twice. Stomach bugs are in a whole other category to me than any cold/cough/fever that goes around a classroom. The difference is (besides all the gruesome cleaning up of vomit/diarrhea), if I catch a cold/cough/fever from my kids, I can take some Advil and Sudafed, tough it out, and still be basically functional caring for them, taking them to school, etc. A stomach bug completely incapacitates you and even simple stuff like taking your kid to preschool becomes impossible when you're puking.

Thank You. I am glad that you are agreeing. I really don't want any of us to catch it.

Re: if you send your dc to a preschool/nursery school program question Re: illness
I HATE throwing up.. OMG I hate it so much!
That said, I'd send her. I did send her, I'd continue to send her. I have this dumb idea (seriously I dont know why I think this) that more exposure to germs is better. I want to build her immunities. Honestly, she has never come home with a stomache bug.. (Yet - god help me *knock on wood*).
Until LIF just recently educated me, I didn't know how long the bug was active. I know kids who poop loose twice are sent home. No one has done that in our school yet. If you vomit you are sent home (unless its a food or something). If you have a fever you are sent home (god knows I've faught this one).
So yes, I'd send her.

I'd send them too. We had the stomach bug 10 times last year & I got it 5 of those times it really is the worse. The stomach bug is so contagious that your DC can catch it days later even when the whole class seems better. Good luck!
