if you speak a language other then english at home .. transition to Daycare?

sorry ladies im writing 4 different posts about daycare, im just starting to get anxiety overhere. This whole daycare searching is stressing me out so much.

DH & I and everyone speak only polish to DD, i am so worried how will she learn, understand english in daycare?
i know she will learn and i know kids learn reallllly fast.
what can i do to help her when she goes to an all english speaking daycare?
i also know its different and more difficult for her now, bc she will be 2, i know it owuld have been easier if she started daycare at lets say 8 months or whatever and get accustomed to english then.

I am speaking as a person whose native tongue is Spanish.. It wasn't until I went into PreK that I learned English.. I never had an issue or a problem. In fact, if you met me, you'd never know or believe me when I tell you that English wasn't my first language..

My parents continued speaking to me only in Spanish at home and in school, I learned English.. The transition was smooth..

We have had quite a few kids who didn't speak English when they started and they are truly like little sponges and pick it up so quickly. My advice would be to pick one parent who speaks English to her and then the others in your family Polish. Once she picks up English you can go back to speaking just Polish at home if you like. My mom has watched DS for us from the moment I had to go back to work when he has 3 months old. She speaks only Greek to him all day. When he is with me, I speak Greek with him as well. When daddy is around, he spaeks English. At age 3, he can converse to us in all Greek, and then translate it to English for his dad and others. It's PERFECT!!! He picked up English from others, and mostly from watching Nick Jr. I grew up in an all Greek home as well and had no problem learning English. Your daughter will do great!

This, pretty much word for word, was me too. I was born in the US, but only spoke Spanish until I was 4 or 5 and started kindergarden. I didn't understand a word the teacher said the first day, but picked it up super quickly.

Same here.

I was only spoken to in Spanish up until I started preschool. It was fine.

Re: if you speak a language other then english at home .. transition to Daycare?

My 1st language was Spanish as my parents spoke that at home; I didn't learn English until I started Kindergarten. I had no difficulties and did great. My parents were worried about the language barrier but at the 1st parent-teacher night the teacher reassured them that she had no issues communicating with me and by 6 months in I was on par with all the other kids, reading, etc.

My dad did make sure to teach me to count in English, as well as the alphabet and the colors way before I started school so maybe you'll want to review some key things like that.

Don't worry, kids are amazing and pick up quickly. Also, growing up I had no academic difficulties and if you heard me speak, you'd have no idea that I learned English at age 4.
