Moms who speak English as a 2nd language - BTDT moms or speech specialists
How did you manage?
I mean I have an accent. I am worried DS is not going to learn English pronunciation properly or he will undertand me but not correlate with the same words since people speak "proper" English.
I stay with him 5 days per week and he is no longer in daycare. We do go to some GTGs but it's not everyday.
Am I making any sense?

I don't think that you'll have a prob.
My dad is in the country for over 30 years, and he still (people say) has an accent from Greece.
I never had an issue with picking it up. There's enough on the radio, and tv, and just constant interaction with people that children don't just pick up mommy or daddy's accent.

As far as I am aware children learn their accent from their peer group. My son has a very distinctive British Accent, at two and a half, its clear as day he will have a Northern British Accent, as this is the dialect that his peers speak.
I asked a speech therapist about this recently, she confirmed the above.

ITA with PP. DS is hearing spoken English from MANY different sources. He *might* pick up some different patterns from you, but once he's in school, those will fade away.
PLEASE tell me you're teaching him to be bilingual! I love that and support it 100%!!!!

I worry sometimes about the same thing plus most of the time I forget to speak English to him and just use Polish... but I figured eventually he will pick up English in kindergarden, school and just interaction with other children... he uses some Polish words but just recently started saying "baby"... I guess children learn more than we think

Sophie I've heard you speak . . . I don't think this should be a big concern for you. But, if it will make you feel better, I will tell you that my mother has an accent on a par with yours. What do you think of my diction???

Thank you! Your diction? well you speak perfectly!!!!
I guess he does hear his dad at night. I am just so many hours with him.
And now I incorporated a lot of French. I say all words in both languages. So now he is all confused and does not say 1 word except dadda or daddy. But as least he undertands ME.

This is only kind of on topic but maybe it will help...
The twins spent a ton of time with their grandfather who is off the boat Italian. "he tawka lika dis"....When they were little they said some of their words with a distinct Italian accent. One of my favorite stories is when they were just over 2 and they were mesmerized by a fish tank at a restaurant we were at..Jaedyn turns to me and goes.."Mama, da fish is a hiden in da booosh"...
They speak perfect English and have exceptional vocabularies and language skills....no worries...

Re: Moms who speak English as a 2nd language - BTDT moms or speech specialists
Sorry for crashing but I just wanted to say that all I heard from 0-5 was Italian from my parents and grandparents. My siblings spoke to me in English. Before I was even out of kindergarten I spoke perfect English with no accent. I have to think about a few words to say them properly. . .like "almond" for some reason but other than that, I am fine.
Your children will only benefit from learning your language!

Re: Moms who speak English as a 2nd language - BTDT moms or speech specialists
Don't worry about it, TRUST ME, I know waaayyy too many people who barely speak English or speak with a very heavy accent and their kids speak English like any American I also have a very slight accent(you can hardly detect it) even though I started learning English when I was 6 and have been in the US for 10 years. I speak to DD in Georgian, Russian and when my DH gets home English, and I am worried too, that she'll get confused and will not start talking properly or learn English with a slight accent,LOL ( I have a degree in speech therapy so I should know better : ) Anyway don't worry , it'll be just fine
