if you suspect a peanut allergy - what did you do?
A few weeks ago my cousin was babysitting and they gave DD (14 months old) a small piece of a PBJ sandwich. They said she broke out in hives/welts.
DD has her 15 month checkup tomorrow morning. Would I be a wacko if I brought a PBJ sandwich to give to her in the waiting room?

you definitely don't want to give any more peanut butter if you suspect an allergy.
avoid ALL nuts for now and set up an appointment with a pediatric allergist ASAP!

I would bring it up to your pediatrician and see what they suggest. They may suggest an allergist. I'd avoid giving a PBJ sandwich in the waiting room just in case there are other kids there with a severe allergy.

I would not give her anymore peanuts until you see an allergist and get her tested. Allergic reactions could get progressively worse. I would tell the doctor about it tomorrow and ask him for a referral to an allergist. I would also ask the doctor would amount of Benadryl is safe to give your DD in case she reacts to something else.

Thanks! DD's PT told me that's what she did. I didn't think it was that brilliant of an idea.

Yes, that would be wacko! Since she was exposed once, the next exposure could be much more severe. Like anaphylaxis severe. You should have her tested for food allergies, either scratch test, blood test, or both, at an allergist.
