If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

Why? What were the reasons?

The cablevision rep swore we'd come crawling back, and said he'd even call us in 40 days to ask how we felt about it.

I have yet to receive first bill from FIOS, and while I don't take what he said as gold, I DO trust my fellow LIFers.

Yes, I did switch back to Cablevision. Because the price they gave me to go back to them could not be beat. I don't care who you are, as long as I can save money right now. The service to me really is not that much different. Also I like news 12 for all the up to date traffic and weather.

Re: If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

My parents did. (I never switched in the first place.) Their bill was higher than expected, even though they asked about the additional taxes and fees. On top of that, the internet was a lot slower and their customer service was worse than Cablevision.

I agree...and I just plain hate Verizon, so it was a win win!

Re: If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

FIOS lured us in with "lower pricing", but it turned out to be much more expensive in the end. We didn't like that.

Also, as I said in the other thread, we found their customer service to be just as terrible as Cablevision's. They both seem to have the attitude of "if you want cable, you're stuck with one of us" so neither of them seems to really care.

I think you will find people that love cablevision and people who love FIOS.

And if you play the game you can keep switching to get the lower price.

I still find FIOS cheaper and if you call to talk to them about issues they give you deals. CV never did that for us.

We switched back because Cablevision gave us a great rate and DH hated that we didn't get all of the Rangers games in HD.

He also missed the News 12 Traffic and Weather channel.

ETA - I hated FIOS customer service (especially for internet). They made me feel like an idiot when in reality, it was their router that was broken.

Re: If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

We switched from Cablevision to Verizon/DirecTV back before Fios, maybe 2 years ago. We only lasted 3 months with Verizon. The bill was MUCH more than expected, and it actually kept going up for some reason. The taxes and fees were kind of insane. We also had a really hard time getting anyone from Verizon on the phone, if I remember correctly at the time they only had a customer service line open until 5pm or something like that.

We wound up switching back to Cablevision and they gave us a credit that covered our cancellation fee through Verizon and locked us into that introductory rate for 2 years. Although we sometimes have issues with Cablevision TV (for some reason the sound cuts out through our tivo box sometimes), overall we are really happy with Cablevision. The bill is the same each month and you can always get someone on the phone.

The one thing I do have a major problem with re: Cablevision are the 'repair' people. We had to have 3 people come out to our house to 'install' the Tivo box, and when there was a problem they sent someone out without giving them any update of what he was supposed to be doing, and without the right equipment. I had taken a full day off work and I was NOT happy!! But I guess that can happen with all the companies, and when I wrote a feedback email someone responded very quickly and sounded concerned.

ETA: Obviously I have no idea what kind of changes Verizon has made to their customer service since that time - hopefully it's better now!

Re: If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

its is a known issue verizon had problems with billing when they first came out...

my bill has been the same for over a year and a half now since i resigned up for a triple play after the first one ended.

i will never go back to CV if it was my choice.

the picture and internet speed are better and reiable.

heck, just switching channels and bring the guide up is instant where on cable you must wait, pause and hope the cable box took your button press.

Re: If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

UGH..at first when my family had FIOS, we liked it a lot because of all the Discovery channels..this was fun for us blah blah blah
At the time, they had a deal where you would get a free tv when you joined, months went by, nada, called and said oh you can't get it anymore! We were so mad at them because after the honeymoon period, we started noticing little things about it that we didn't like, can't really remember what but eventually (4months in maybe) we switched and cable paid for it all.
Not saying I like all the BS that goes on when they pull a channel but for now, it's cable.

i noticed this at my in-laws house the other day (they have cablevision and i have fios). i actually got annoyed with how slow the channel changing and guide features are. fios is so fast! i could never go back to cablevision.

Is bringing up the guide REALLY that important to people? What happened to TV guide? Took an hour to look through that thing. Chat Icon

Same for me. I didn't 'crawl' back.. but they came and gave me a price that Fios couldn't beat. Money talks.. I don't have all that much brand loyalty! Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention but the internet connection speed and television response time have never been an issue for me with either service.

Re: If you switched BACK to Cablevision after having FIOS...

I havent switched back although I am considering it simply because Cablevision is now offering me soo much to switch back.

My first FIOS bill was much larger than I anticipated but thats because it was a partial month, full month and some install fees. After that my bill has been almost exactly what the FIOS rep said it would be 6 months ago.

But now one leg of my promo has ended and with what cable is offering me I can save nearly $60 a month!

IF they had of just worked with me more 7 months ago I never would have left.

Like I said I havent switched back...but I am considering it....

PS yes I miss news 12 .. FIOS news 1 or whatever it called is HORRIBLE.

But I actually like the some aspects of FIOS better. Nothing too major to keep me to stay.

ETA: I totally agree with the PPs about the speed of the guide and switching channels! FIOS is far superior in that area@
