If you took a baby and older sibling to Disney, did you take the baby on rides?

Was the baby allowed to ride the kiddie rides?

Or did one parent just stand in line with a baby?

We are going next month. Younger DS is 1 (not yet walking) and the older DS is 3.

We went when my older DS was 2 and my step sons were 12 and 9.

Some rides don't allow lap infants. But they have a wonderful precedure... I forget what it's called... ride swap maybe... where you go to the attendant at the line and tell them you have a baby. Your DH would go on with DS while you wait on a bench by the exit. Then when they come off, you can go on with you DS so you get to ride too and your DS gets to ride twice. You go right through the exit and up to the front of the line.

We took the girls a month before the older one turned 3 (took advantage of the free under 3). DD#2 turned 1 on the trip. We saw a ton of very young babies (think 2-3 months). Yes they are allowed on any ride that does not have a height restriction (which is most rides at WDW). They would be restricted from some of the more wild rides (i.e roller coaster and some other more wild ones).

In the MK the only rides that have a height requirement are:
Great Goofini (36 inches)
Splash Mountain (40 inches)
Space Mountain (44 inches)
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (40)
and Stitches Great Escape (I think is 40 inches).

We saw a lot of parents with bjorn type carriers taking their children on rides.

That leaves about 20 give or take things you can do in the MK. So you will really won't miss those. On our last trip DD#1 was only tall enough to ride the Great Goofini (just barely she is on the small side). She was never bored and we had plenty to do.

BTW any ride that has a height restriction offers something called baby swap. If your older child can ride (if both can't you can still do baby swap but you would ride alone) then say you go to the Cast member at the entrance (they will make you show them the child who can't ride) and will usually give you a FP to the other parent - although some rides are done differently. The 1st parent rides with the child who is tall enough. Then you swap and the next parent rides with the older child again. Since the girls were too small DH and I only did it once of twice and waited until the girls were asleep in the stroller so they weren't missing anything.

At EPCOT, AK, and HS - these rides also have height restrictions:
EPCOT:
Mission Space, Soarin and test track.

AK: Expedition Everest, raft ride, dinosaur, and the dinosaur mouse coaster.

HS: Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller coaster and star tours.

Etd to add - my girls were almost 3 and DD#2 turned 1 on the trip - so if you have any questions about anything - our experience etc please don't hesitate to FM me anytime with any questions!!

We've been taking DD to Disney since she was 7 months. We have taken her on all rides that don't have a height requirement.

The baby swap sounds great. Can you still swap kids if the ride is tame and the baby technically could have ridden the ride?

If you could pick one other Disney park besides Magic Kingdom, which would you recommend?

We already plan to go to Sea World and Legoland. We have time for 1 other park.

Does baby swap work even if you don't have an older child, but mommy and daddy want to ride a ride and leave their baby with the other while mom or dad rides alone?

Rider swap can only be used on rides that have a height requirement. One thing we did- DD wanted to do a ride - the FP time was pretty close to the time we were there - so we grabbed a FP and did it again about an hour later. That doesn't work though if you are using FP at a busy time of the year so you don't have to wait in a very long line. We went during a quiet time and really didn't need to use FP that often.

Well my girls like the parks in this order - MK, EPCOT, AK, and last HS.

Well I personally would do EPCOT if you want another park. It was a park that both my girls and DH and I enjoyed. Epcot has - living with the seas (aquarium) - with a finding nemo ride and turtle talk with crush (you go into a theater and crush swims up on a screen and talks and interacts with the children). There is living with the land. That has a boat ride that was one my girls didn't love but I have friends whose children did. Soarin has a 40 inch height requirement (baby swap). Journey into your imagination the girls enjoyed. There is a fun interactive play area involving music after the ride. You can also send photo postcards there.

The girls enjoyed spaceship earth ride. They can't do mission space unless they are 44 inches - but I read that there is an indoor play area you can use after the ride (even if you don't ride you can go and play). The girls enjoyed walking around innovations as well. They have some interactive exhibits. There is a meet and greet with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and donald.

If it is warm there is a small interactive water fountain to run around in (bring a change of clothes) between future world and world showcase.

Then world showcase - there are a lot of meet and greets as you go around. The countries have intercot (I think they were called) stations (art stations where you made things like masks). The girls loved the boat rides in Norway and especially mexico (reminded them of a mexican its a small world they said).

China had acrobats, there are drums in Japan etc. There is a toy train set up near I think Germany. So there were lots of things to walk around and see and do.

The other two parks are nice - AK was more of a hit because there was a lot more for the girls to do than HS. HS is nice - but I think geared more towards older children because there are a lot of shows, and some larger rides. So it really depends on what you are looking for. AK has some nice rides - it is NOT like a zoo - we belong to the bronx zoo and I don't compare them at all. They have a fun boneyard dig/play area, some good shows (lion king and finding nemo).
