Re: If you went away to college...

I went to Siena and it was AMAZING! I was incredibly shy, and going away to school forced me to be more social. It was life-changing for me...I met new people for all over, became more outgoing...and really figured out who I was as a person. My brothers came to visit me for siblings weekend one year and they were astounded at how different I'd become....they actually went home and told my parents "Lori is a new person!" I also spent a semester abroad in England and it was incredible as well. I totally recommend going away to school if you can swing it.
I went to Siena as well! I did not want to go away but within a couple days I was in love, best experience in so many ways, studied in Florence for a semester, met my husband and life long friends.

University at Buffalo. Loved it and my sister followed in my footsteps 4 years later. I loved that it was actual campus and I think I got a phenomenal education there.
I went to UB as well. I only went for the first 2 years cause i had WAY too much fun lol but i really didnt know what I wanted to do with my life so i spent those 2 years partying. most of the classes are huge so you have to really want to get an education there and show up to class. there are smaller classes as well...but thats as you get further in your degree.

Re: If you went away to college...
Stony Brook. Not really, I worked a lot and studied a lot. I did meet my husband at school, so I'm very thankful for that. Stony brook was hard when I went there, very competitive. I hear it's much worse / more competitive now with overseas , certain Frats, and new citizen students that "help" each other. Everything is graded on a curve so what I'm hearing is the groups that "help" eachother are at the top while regular Folks don't have such advantages.
I'm hoping my kids go to NYU or something in commuting distance.

Re: If you went away to college...
Boston University (but i grew up in Boston).
Even though i was from Boston, i still lived in the dorms etc. Best experience ever and i will push for my son to live away from home if/when the time comes.
Boston is such a great college town - there are so many big and small colleges there and such a great environment for learning!

Re: If you went away to college...
I went to Delaware and I absolutely loved it.
A lot of my friends went to Fairfield so I spent a lot of time there too and loved it.
I always tell my kids staying home isn't an option because I want them to get the life experience of living away as much as the education.

Re: If you went away to college...
SUNY New Paltz- I liked it. It was far enough away but close enough that I could come home on the weekends- a little bit of the best of both worlds.

If you went away to college...
University of South Carolina. I have to be honest I didnt love it until 2nd semester freshman year because of the transition but after that LOVED.
They used to have a program where you could get close to in state tuition $$ if you did well on SATs.

Loyola Maryland. Just went to my 15 year reunion this past summer. The campus is georgeous and so were the people lol. Great weather too when I was there. I always joke that it was like Disneyworld ;)
My ex dh went to Tufts and I hate all his friends but it is a good school
my sister went to loyola and graduated in 2001. i wonder if you know her? and we are still friends with a local long islander who was her roommate.
