If you were expecting #3 when #1 was around five years old...
would you bother to buy another infant carseat?
I know you're "supposed" to buy another carseat after five years and my Snugride just looks old to me (Any other 05ers with the blue plaid Graco print? ). But realistically, how long is the baby really going to use it? DD#1 used it about 9 mos, but DD#2 was less than 6 mos...maybe even 4?
Worth spending the money for such a short period or no?

I don't have a 5-yr old, nor am I expecting #3 - but I'll answer since I've thought about it LOL
Yes, I would buy a new one. I think the expiration date is on the bottom of the carrier - if expired, I def. would. We are switching DS out of his carrier now and I was just thinking I may not get to use it again if I have a 3rd child.

why not look at the baby selling board here on LIF for a cheap one, because if I were in your shoes, I couldn't see spending so much for something that won't be used much either. Plus, I think I trust most gals on LIF.

Yes, I did. I looked up the carrier that both DC#1 and 2 used and it had expired so I got another one for DC#3.
Better safe than sorry. ;)

DS1 was a few months shy of turning six when DD (third child) was born and we got a new car seat. I'm sure it would've been fine to reuse it but I figured better safe than sorry.

Re: If you were expecting #3 when #1 was around five years old...
I have thought about this too, whether to keep my car seat now which I have used for DS #1 and #2. If I had a 3rd, at that point it would be 5+ years old.
Just curious...other than safety standards changing, why would a car seat expire? Seems almost like it is just a money making scheme if there are no actual changes in the seat.

I would look to borrow one. If you have a girl, I have a Snugride from Graco and base, in the Canterberry pattern from Laura Ashley, that you can borrow.

Re: If you were expecting #3 when #1 was around five years old...
We're going to have to!
My oldest son is almost 6.5 yrs old and we used his infant seat for my almost 4 yr old when he was born.
My kids were so big, the poor carseat didn't have a chance to make it to child #3. It was so beat up. The handle was so loose and we couldn't tighten it! LOL! The funny thing is that with both kids we only used it for 8 weeks with each of them because they had already grown out of it!
Having that said, even if I still had it, I definitely would get a new/newer one. Those seats change soooo much every year. I hate spending the money too considering my kids don't use it long at all.

You know if your kids only use it for 8 weeks, I'd just get a new convertible seat and all it a day. Most of them that are rear facing are from 5lbs and up

I wouldn't, as long as there is nothing wrong with the one you have then use it.

I'm not. My kids were only in the Peg Perego carseat until about 4 months old then I swtiched to a convertible. It still looks like I just took it out of the box. I plan to just get a new convertible Triumph seat when this baby is about 4 or 5 months. Our our convertible was gross from too many car sick episodes.

See that's what I was thinking. And then vanity gets the better of me and I WANT a new one. Although the chances of my DH paying for a private room decrease dramatically with every frivolous baby purchase made from here out!
Evidently, there should be some sort of an expiration date on it; I guess I'll check that and think further on it.
And thanks, Kristen, if I knew I was having a girl (we're not finding out), I might take you up on that!

Re: If you were expecting #3 when #1 was around five years old...
Someone told me that it is a car insurance issue, if you have an accident. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THAT IS THE TRUTH, JUST WHAT I WAS TOLD. We did by a new one though. I would ask your insurance co. to be sure.

According to Graco's website they expire 6 years from manufacture. If you follow the link, it will show you how to find all the info that you need
