If you work full time, where do your kids go when there is no school (holidays)?

I am considering a full time position. Brody will be in daycare, but not sure what to do with Ava.

When we were BOTH working I would do a lot of stressing about every holiday. I'd usually wind up in some sort of arrangement with my nephew or his girlfriend. Sometimes I'd get a friend. I also did a co-op kind of thing with a few friends... my friend Elaine would take off Monday and watch my kids and Steph's kids. I'd do Wednesday and Steph would do Friday or whatever. And then we'd have less time to worry about. There are also a few in home day care centers that take school aged kids on holidays.

DH works for the state so he gets a lot of the holidays schools are closed. If we do have work, I have some flexibility to work from home or DS can go to my ILs if they are available.

If it's on a Monday, my dad is off and he's on grandchild duty. On other days, either my husband goes to work after I get home and does kid duty or I work half a day and then come home at lunch time so DH can head in to work.

We have the abiity to do a "drop in" program at her old daycare, but now that she is in K she feels she is "too old" for that

We are lucky to have grandparents to help out or DH and I alternate taking a vacation day. The hard times are when they have a full week off of school....

We also keep in touch with a local babysitter that is good with short notice

I have also noticed that our local YMCA and Y offer day programs for school age kids when school is closed. For example there is a full day bronx zoo trip on columbus day for $50 at the Y.

For major holidays, DH & I are usually off.

For school vacations (Dec, February, April), my ILs or mom help out.

My friend has her daughter in "vacation camp" at Kiddie Academy.

Bella's daycare was run much like a school, so I had some exposure to it for the past 5 years. It's tough. DH and I would alternate days off, we have my sister who offers a couple of days when she is off (she is a teacher too).

I was pleasantly surprised to realize that my company is OFF on Columbus Day!!! So I avoided another need to take the day and get coverage.

We just wing it and hope for the best. Dh was off last winter, so we didn't have to worry about it, but in the past you just kind of get through it.

We did a combination of My sister, "grandma & Grandpas camp for a spoiled grandson cc " days off between DH & I.

The Tae Kwon Do school DS studies at usually has a day camp program for holidays that I think we are going to try out this year. - That is whenever I get back to work full time.
