If you work in the city & live on LI...(simple question)
do you pay a city tax from your check?
I thought I heard something like this...asking for a friend.

As others have said, if you live in LI & work in Manhattan, you don't have to pay a city tax.

Some employees who work for NYC but live in Long Island, do have to pay a City Waiver Tax.
DH pays this in his paycheck for being a city employee but not a NYC resident.
It's essentially a tax for earning money in the city as a commuter, but not residing there and paying city taxes.
I'm sure anyone else's spouse who works for the city for an agency like NYPD, then they know that old city waiver!

I think some city jobs (not DOE) have to. I know Sanitation does.

No. When I started with my current company we had a moron in HR that listed me as a city resident and I didn't even notice it until my accountant told me. Thankfully I got all that tax back!
