If your child/children are spending 2+ hours outside today/this week

Are you putting sunblock on them? At least the exposed parts (face & hands).

I am a self-confessed sunblock obsessed person with DD. I told DH to tell the babysitter today to put it on her, and I asked MIL to do it yesterday.

She just has such beautiful skin and I want to keep it that way!

DH rolled his eyes at my request, that's why I'm asking Chat Icon Then, in typical Earth Science teacher fashion proceeds to tell me about the sun's tilt (blah blah blah) this time of year, but I ignored him and insisted upon it Chat Icon

No, I probably should considering his fair irish skin but we're going to be at the parade, in between buildings, surrounded by people etc. I don't think he's going to be baking in direct sun. Plus he has the sunshade on his stroller. Though I may throw it in the stroller just in case, it can't hurt to have it.

I would-the sun is the sun. Of course, my children are pasty pasty pale.

At only 8 1/2 months, Nolan's exposure is so limited and screened by stroller canopies, dangle toys and such that I consider it "vitamin D exposure". But if we sit on a blanket and have some play time (only did it once this season) outside, I try to keep a hat on him. And again, it's barely for a long time. I do not even have sunblock for him yet.

If I were an Earth Science teacher, knowing the facts, with an active child spending that much time outdoors... yes, I'd put sunblock on. Chat Icon It's good habit.

Same here. And I am sooooo jealous of her unblemished skin that I want to keep it that way, esp. since she's so fair.

I'm sticking to it anyway, just curious about what others would do.

I was totally going to post this same question..

I think I am probably going to put some on-- if we are supposed to always wear SPF, then they should too.

I thnk we are getting into springtime, so the sun is def stronger now...

Same reasoning here Chat Icon I've always been neurotic about the sun with DD!

I can assure you that it doesn't even come up in a household conversation between two meteorologists. Not sure the last time we discussed the Earth's tilt. Maybe for our honeymoon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon We were trying to figure out the SPF we needed on the equator. Chat Icon

Not yet, but my son naps between 12-3, so if he is out, it is generally before 11 or after 3 so until summer comes, I won't be using sunscreen.

no.....
DD was out for 3 1/2 hours yesterday and I did not put sunblock on her.

they need some non sunblock time or else their bodies wouldn't be able to produce vitamin D

No way, especially after being couped up in the house for the past few months the skin and the kids' bodies need as much Vitamin D as they can get.

Yeah see in my eyes, my DD gets enough sun exposure to/from car, stores, park, etc. Plenty of Vitamin D time.

Anytime they are in the direct sun longer than say, 15 minutes. They get sunscreen. I carry it in my purseChat Icon

I agree-I have read varying numbers from 10-20 minutes a day for proper Vitamin D synthesis.

I live in LA so its sunblock year round. Plus if you saw my DD skin, you would agree.

According to my ped, winter or summer doesn't matter, they should have sunscreen on EVERY DAY!
