if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
my mom watches DD (shes almost 8 months) and she calls me from the park yesterday and says Victoria is the only child in the park not wearing any shoes. (she did have socks, although i let her be barefoot when its hot) and my mom is starting to tell me how she should be wearing shoes bla bla... i said shes not walking whats the point. anyone with me? or should she be wearing shoes? if so which was the first pair you got your DC before they started walking but were learning to get up etc....?

Exactly, if I had a girl, I would be broke! DS has sneakers, and crocs, that kind of stuff, he keeps them on for the most part, but he does kick them off a lot.

When we go out I put shoes on him, just because it looks nice.

My DC doesn't walk and I put shoes on him, everyday unless we stay home. He generally always kicks them off then will proceed to rip off his socks.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
I usually put DD in these little pink booties she has. They look something like this, but they are thin- not wool- all cotton (same type of shape, soft all around with the velcro). I think I got them at TJ Maxx for about $5. If pink doesn't go with the outfit I just bought her some white soft sole sandles. Or, she will sometimes just wear socks. I like something on her feet though b/c I feel like she always looses a sock. Also, she loves to lap stand (since she was 2 months) and now she likes to stand holding on to things. So, I figure, her feet are on the ground... I have been on the hunt for some soft sole shoes, like Pediped to buy for the summer. DD is 6.5 months.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
I was the mommy with a kid without shoes. My ds didn't get his first pair of shoes until he started walking around at 15 months. I felt it was better for his feet not to have them. He spent all last summer at the playground with no shoes scooting around.

Around the house she is usually bare foot. When we leave the house I put shoes on her.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
Just had this discussion with the women at stride rite (sp?). She said that is is not necessary to put shoes on you baby before their first steps. Once they start walking yes. But before then socks/barefeet are best. IF it is for fun or in my case bc I don't want Santino's feet to touch the dirty ground if we are out and we stand him up for a few seconds, soft shoes like robeez are best
As of right now I just put socks on him

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
I have put shoes on DS since he was about 6 months old. He is now almost 16 months and he is still not walking. In the beginning I did it because I thought that it looked cute but now I do it because he pulls his socks off without them.

Yup, that's exactly what my Ped said so we only put socks
I'd like to add if you saw the size of DS flinstone feet I don't think I could get shoes on him. I call them bricks. They're HUGE

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
nope. I don't waste my money on stuff like that. I buy him cute socks, and thick ones for when I take him out.
he won't get shoes until he starts pulling himself up. I have no interest in fashion shoes (besides the cuteness factor)

We use socks also, because his feet are so big. I am having trouble finding some shoes that fit him the right way.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
Before DS was able to walk, he never wore shoes. I had one pair of Robeez because someone bought them for us. I always had socks on his feet. I bought his first pair of shoes once he started to try to walk.
Don't worry- I see plenty of children without shoes all the time.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
Mine is 8.5 months and doesn't walk, but is always pulling up to standing, so for the sake of his little socks, I put robeez on him. I'm going to get him his first pair of shoes this week though because the weather's starting to get nice and we're in the park a lot. I wouldn't if we were just at home or someone else's house.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
I started to in the winter because I didn't want their feet to get cold. They did have a pair of baby converse I'd put on them last fall, they were so cute! DD walks now ,but DS doesn't - I still put sneakers on him because sometimes we walk with him holding his hand, and he cruises on everything.

Re: if your child doesnt walk, do you put shoes on them?
I just started putting shoes on her for going out and for daycare because she now pulls herself to standing, etc. I take them off as soon as we get home.
