If your child had tonsils/adenoids out
Wanting to know info about recovery if your child had their tonsils and adenoids out... My 2 year old son is getting surgery next week and I am nervous. I went to two different ENT's (we were referred to see one by his pulmonologist since he was getting ear infections often ,and always has fluid in his ears even after using flonase/zyrtec). The first ENT said she recommended tubes, and partial tonsillectomy and partial adenoidectomy because his tonsils were "huge". The second ENT recommended tubes and full tonsillectomy and full adenoidectomy and said he thought it was silly the other ENT recommended partial because it wouldn't do anything (I have also heard there is a chance they can grow back with partial). My son does snore and sometimes pauses in breathing so I am thinking maybe both were right about removing the tonsils but I don't want to deal with having him get surgery again if they grow back... So we are going to do the surgery with the tubes with the full tonsils/adenoid removal, however, I am just so nervous on what to expect since he is so little... how long was your child in pain, and how long did it take them to recover? How long until they were back in school/daycare? I am planning for a week out but not sure if I should expect him to be out longer.

My son had his tonsils and adenoids out when he was 2.5, mainly for the same reason - mouth breathing and pausing breath while he slept.
I'm not going to lie - the recovery wasn't fun for any of us. His dad took off work for a week to care for him and I think it took about 7 days for the recovery. Our son ate mostly yogurt drinks, smoothies, and mashed potatoes. It was rough but 11 years later - it's like a blip in his life that we barely remember.

Similar experience here, except mine was 4. My son had to stay overnight, which wasn't fun. Also, he got worse around day 4 or so before he got better. We were a little concerned, but apparently that is normal.
I would definitely have a new electronic device or video game or something ready to go for the hospital. We ended up getting my 4 year old a Nintendo DS to "ease" his recovery and it was a godsend.
I also bought a Vitamix to make smoothies during his recovery. I think it helped.
