Surgery is done- questions for those who DC had tonsils/adenoids removed?

Rj had his surgery on Friday and it went very well- had such a great experience at Mather Hospital- the nurses were great!

Turns out his tonsils were so much larger than we had thought- shouldve been a 30 and was actually an 80Chat Icon

Recovery hasnt been bad at all; I havent needed to give any of the RX pain medication- just some regular tylenol. He has not complained once about pain; and has been eating/drink wonderfully! I think the hardest part for him is the restricted diet and limitation with activities- he feels good and wants to eat, run, jump and play and cantChat Icon

Im just wondering; for those who have been through this did your childs appetite change? Rj has never EVER been a good eater and well since the surgery he is eating me out of house and homeChat Icon Literally; he was the last one at the dinner table with seconds of EVERYTHING!

Also, when did they start to sleep better; since surgery snoring is way worse than EVER (like so loud, I cant even hear my television!) and he is not sleeping soundly at all... I thought this was supposed to make him sleep betterChat Icon

Thanks everyone for the prayers, well wishes and FM's! Chat Icon

ETA- our ENT is Dr. Shangold; he was WONDERFUL; so informative, great bed side manner- he is in Pt.Jeff if anyone would like more info feel free to FM!

Don't take this the wrong way but RJ is a tonsillectomy freak Chat Icon I am amazed at how well his recovery is. I wish TJs had been so easy Chat Icon

His snoring and what not will be worse for a couple of weeks from the swelling. TJs voice even sounded funny, like Mickey Mouse. He also did not sleep through the night for a few weeks after surgery. He would start crying in his sleep too. As he heals all this stuff will subside and he'll be sleeping much better.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Ya know what- Im shocked; every morning I wake up and am like "are you ok?" "Does anything hurt?" "Can you swallow?" It's like Im waiting for it to all go wrong...

He def. isnt 100% and I see him eating slow, and at times struggling as he swallows his food- but he wont let it hold him down...

Fri was surgery, Sat we went to TRU, Sunday- the duck pond, Monday-the aquarium, and yesterday the ecology site.... he is going stir crazy because he feels good, and doesnt want to stay inside... Im shockedChat Icon but so happy he is doing well...

Can I ask- what do the scabs look like? Inside his throat-where the tonsils are are all whiteish/yellow- is that the scab?

The snoring is terrible; it literally is keeping me upChat Icon Chat Icon

Yes the yellow white things are the scabs Chat Icon

TJ ate ok the first two or three days but then ate NOTHING, would barely take a Sip of juice days 4-7. And for the 2nd week he was super picky and only ate very soft foods. I gave him whatever he would eat.

He may also be eating better now because those enormous tonsils are gone. Sometimes TJ would gag because food would get stuck and is harder to swallow when you have golf ball sized tonsils.
