If your child has tree nut allergies...
How cautious are you as to what snacks he/she eats? My granddaughter has allergies to cashews, pistachios, walnuts, etc. The allergist said to stay away from ALL tree nuts for awhile. She's only 28 mos. old. She had a reaction to the tiniest piece of walnut which she didn't even swallow. Anyway, we have been reading every package and are buying things like Goldfish, Chips Ahoy, and other things as long as there is NO caution on the package. As long as it doesn't say "may contain traces of" or "processed in a facility where tree nuts were processed" we thought they are ok. She called Pepperidge farm and they said even though Goldfish do not have a warning on the label, they are processed on the same line with products that contain nuts, but that things are cleaned ,tested etc. Is that safe enough? We are overwhelmed and don't want to overlook anything, but don't want to be paranoid and overly cautious either. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Just a note... She is ok with peanuts, it's tree nuts that are the culprit.

Re: If your child has tree nut allergies...
Check out snacksafely.com. Also, if you go to whole foods or a natural section in the supermarket you can find a lot of products made in peanut free facilities. As for being cautious i would be very. My cousin has a bad allergy and they do not keep any peanut products in their home at all. Its also important to be careful when out. There is a peanut free bakery in brightwaters called carmines and one in bellmore called bare naked. Im also pretty sure wild flours in Huntington is as well. Hope that helps!

I find that it gets easier bec labels have now written in bold if there is a nut in the ingredients on the bottom!
But I do give my son things that say "may contain..." "Made on the same facility..." Etc.
And have never had a problem!
Good luck!

I agree with Denise, you need to be very, very careful. If she is having small reactions constantly from trace amounts of allergens, that can make each subsequent reaction stronger. It can easily turn into anaphylaxis.
