I agree that it probably wouldn't be on my mind to ask either.

I just received a note from Joseph's daycare that one of the moms wants to set up a playdate. Here's my dilemma - not only do I know zip about this mom, her son is the one who is on a 2 week probation & may get kicked out.

My first reaction was absolutely not. Then I started thinking more about the fact that this little boy's father left, etc - and I'm wondering if I was being too judgemental about the whole thing.

This post has made me realize that it's not just about the kid having issues, etc. It wouldn't have occurred to me to ask about guns. Maybe a playdate at Chuck E. Cheese's is a better option.

a kid gets kicked out of daycare

Since my kid was suspended I can tell you. My 4 year old tried to choke his classmate. There were some issues about the teachers not supervising, etc. but in the end, he did it. We had to bring him to a child psychologist, who determined the major cause was the steroids he was put on. We decided to switch daycares because the director told me he'd be allowed back in part time in 3 weeks.Chat Icon

Other kids were kicked out for biting, tantrums, etc.

I don't know what this boy does but I do know he does talk back and doesn't listen. And ALL of the kids look up to him.

don't think it would be on the mind to think to ask

and honestly i don't think i would just come out and say....So, do you have fire arms in your house?

although it does concern me
ESPECIALLY with boys

This is what I would be thinking as well. To be honest, unless they are a cop, I assume most people don't just because of the way I grew up. Not one person in my extended family owned a gun. I know that's pretty nieve for today.

I wouldn't just drop my kid off unless I also went into the house. You never know how people live today. My Dad used to do this when he dropped us off at a new friend's house. He would always make the excuse if he could use the bathroom. I guess to make sure the family was fairly normalChat Icon

Re: If your child was going to another child's house

My father was the PITA dad. We lived in FL, were gun racks in living rooms were as common as TVS. If there was a gun when he was dropping me off for a party, I was only allowed to stay for cake and he would pick me up 2 hours later. No sleepovers allowed.

It is a scary thought, having your kid around other kids where there are firearms. I think I would ask, I don't know what I would do with the info though. Maybe take each situation differently. If the gun was loaded in their room I think that is a bigger problem then hunting rifles that are not loaded stored in the living room.

Yikes - I never thought of this....I would have to say yes I would ask. Because I would beat myself up if anything ever happened.....

No wonder my dad and stepmom never let my 9 year old brother go to another kids house!
