If your DC has/had reflux and was on meds, when were they able to come off them?
Did the Ped or GI tell you to take them off at a certain age?

At 6month appt I asked and dr. said I can try to ween him off the zantac. So far so good. Went from twice a day to once.

When DS was 5 months old, his pedi GI said to wait 2-3 months until we tried to wean him off his meds. He is now 7.5 months old and he is on 2 doses a day instead of 3. Once in a while, I have to give him the 3rd dose. He has flare ups that really bother him.

We are still on the Elecare formula, but he stopped the Axid at about 6 months when we started introducing regular food.

Xavier was on Axid for reflux and I just recently took him off of it last week. When he first started it his reflux was horrible...I would literally hear it coming up and then him screaming. Over the last few weeks I forgot to give him doses here and there and ended up realizing he wasn't refluxing like he used to. He's been off it for a week or so and is perfectly fine. He spits up a little more but it doesn't hurt him at all.

Re: If your DC has/had reflux and was on meds, when were they able to come off them?
We tried taking DS off zantac at 6 months but it did not go well. He was slowly being weaned before that in the sense that his dosage was not increased even though his weight did significantly. After doing so well and having NO symptoms, he seemed to have a flare-up right before we stopped the zantac (in hindsight). I didn't realize at the time that and then we discontinued - a week later he was horrible, worse than i'd ever seen him
Not sure why its gotten worse instead of better as he has gotten older and started solids. Had a little flare-up last week also.

When we began pediatriac chiropractic care! We were able to get him off the meds and Elecare within a few weeks of adjustments.

Re: If your DC has/had reflux and was on meds, when were they able to come off them?
My DD is 13 months old and she is still on her Prilosec. We saw the GI doc last month and he said that b/c she still spits up a lot, she is obviously still visibly refluxing so she still needs to be on the meds.

Ds was off his prevacid by 5-6 months when he started food and cereal.
Now that I stopped BFing he has to be on Nutramagin formula.

Re: If your DC has/had reflux and was on meds, when were they able to come off them?
We though DS was good at 5 months, and he even stopped spitting up so much so we took him off the prilosec. However, for the past few weeks he's been showing other signs of reflux (arching his back, grunting/wincing, and turning to his left) so I am going to talk to the ped about putting him back on. If he needs it, I'd rather him have it than have damage to his esophagus (saw a pic of a child's esophagus that had been damaged by reflux today ) or develop aversions to food.

Re: If your DC has/had reflux and was on meds, when were they able to come off them?
Around 4 months the ped GI told us to give DS his prilosec every other day (we already went from twice a day to once a day). I would forget every once and a while to give it to him and noticed he was fine on the days I would forget to give it to him. The dr said to just stop it and he has been fine since, DS is now 6 months. I EBF and still have to eat a dairy free diet though.

Re: If your DC has/had reflux and was on meds, when were they able to come off them?
DD # 1 was 8 months, dd#2 was 6 months. On a regular basis i would have to increase their dosage as they got bigger. When some time had passed and they didn't need an increase I tried weaning to see how it would go.
