When did you stop giving your dc acid reflux meds?
Santino is on Axid and I'm wondering when to stop. Off course I will talk to the ped on Friday about this but I'm just curious when everyone elses ped recommended them to stop.
Also, did symptoms come back when the child was off the meds
thx

Re: When did you stop giving your dc acid reflux meds?
My twins were on pepcid twice a day 5 ml each. At 9 months they were cut back to once a day. At 9 and a half months, I reduced the amount of dose from 5 mls to 4 mls then a week later to 3 mls, etc. Now at 10 months they are completely off it.

Re: When did you stop giving your dc acid reflux meds?
8-9 weeks
back story - a litttttle long Sophia was (mis)diagnosed, in my opinion, with AR and started on zantac and rice cereal at 3 weeks old to this day I feel a little bit like that's my fault. She was a handful in the beginning, and I was grabbing at straws. I told the Ped I thought it was AR (she did have some of the signs) and they went with it.
at 8 weeks we took her to a Ped GI and he said based on her perfect weight gain that there was nothing more than possible AR going on, to continue what we were doing, and to switch to Dr. Brown bottles. They were a godsend. we had been using modified playtex cereal nipples, and the flow was too fast for her, causing her to projectile vomit.
in the end I honestly think she just had colic, no AR. Sophia is in my opinion a very poor self soother. She doesnt know how to wind down when she's wound up. as soon as we switched to the Dr. Brown bottles things got much better. so after that 8 week Ped GI visit I stopped the zantac cold turkey. i didnt think it helped anyway. i saw no bad side affects from stopping, so a week later we took her off the cereal (first during the day, then at night). still, no increase in symptoms.
by 10 weeks she was a different baby. but i dont think it had anything to do with the meds or cereal. she was simply 10 weeks old, not 3 weeks. she was more developed, better equipped to handle stress, better at regulating herself. everyday she gets better. no more crying for 6 hrs straight like when she was 3 weeks old
