when dh(fh at the time) had knee surgery, his mom was at the hospital with me. when he was in recovery she was with me as well. it didn't bother me

My DH is having minor surgery in Sept...his dad said, "Good luck. Let me know if you need anything." His mom passed away last year- I think maybe she would have wanted to at least come down from MA to see him, but that is about it. They never intruded too much into our lives.

My ILs aren't really the types to be like this, but like I said in my original response, if they really wanted to be there so much for DH, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

knowing my inlaws they would stop by the hospital if he stayed overnight
and may stop by after he got home..
if it is minor i don't see them going overboard...

I guess it would be up to my DH. I know his parents would be up at the hospital and would be calling all the time, cause his mom is annoying like that. I would probably tell them I have everything under controll, and he is fine.

If his parents are worried, they might want to be the ones to be there to offer support and may want it themselves.
DH actually had very minor surgery recently. I know if my IL's were there they would have made me so much more nervous than necessary. When they offered to come stay with me I let them know I was grateful for the offer, but it truly was not necessary and I would call them as soon as he was awake.

i hope everything goes well with your DH.. I would play it by ear and see how you feel. I agree with the other posters, it seems minor, so maybe touching base after the surgery with them may make them feel better. I would also check with DH to see what would make him happy...

Wow - I'm definitely not a good DIL. When I read your question I thought, "I guess I would call to tell them."
Their level of involvement would be up to DH. I know when I've been in the hospital, I just wanted to be left alone. I hate the idea of people waiting in a waiting room for me. I'd rather call them to say everything is ok.

when DH had his knee surgury, MIL wanted to be there at the hospital with me. I wasn't thrilled with the idea at first, but it would up being nic eto have the company while I waited.

When I had my laproscopies ( I had 2), my parents came and sat with DH at the hospital. They wanted to be there, and we couldn't tell them no.

I would leave it up to my DH- no point in making him more stressed
knowing my DH he wouldn't want them there- they would drive him and me crazy

My DH is having shoulder surgery in 2 weeks
His Mom wants to take the day off & stay at the hospital (but she first said it like she did not expect me to be there )
Anyhow, DH is indiffernet as well about it....I told her repeatedly not to take the time off, I will be there & I am taking the day after off to take care of him. BUT, it seems like she insists anyway. I will not let her sit at the hospital with me....I want to relax & read, not entertain her!
This is an outpatient procedure & we all live in the same house, she will see him when I bring him home!!!

My ILs would both be at the hospital the entire time, follow us home, then babysit him while he slept.
And I would be irritated by that.
