If your dog sleeps in a cage/crate...
Where is it in your home?
We used to keep him in the livingroom (small apt) in his cage at night, but when he had surgery last year we moved it into the bedroom to keep an eye on him. We never moved it back, and he's still in the bedroom. i want to move it back to the livingroom, but don't want him to feel left out and lonely at night.

when we crated hershey, we kept him in the bedroom for the first month or 2... then we moved him into the living room
we also got him when he was 12 weeks old -- so we babied him a little more

Everything I read says that dogs that sleep in the bedroom, even in crates, are better adjusted and feel like part of the family. We are setting our puppy up in the bedroom, though I am concerned how that will effect our private life, since we want to start trying to have kids in about a year.

Our pup sleeps in the crate next to my side of the bed. We are hoping in the near future to change the crate to a dog bed so I don't have to climb on the bed from the bottom anymore!

Re: If your dog sleeps in a cage/crate...
i wish my dog slept in my BR! LOL! we don't crate him at night now, but when we did he was in the bedroom next to my side of the bed now i just let him sleep where he wants to and he often chooses the living room about 2/3 of the time. But, i usually find him on his pillow in the bedroom by morning.
ETA: we tried getting him to sleep on the bed with us but he hated it and refused. lol!

See, that's what I was afraid of...I guess he'll stay in the bedroom with us .

Re: If your dog sleeps in a cage/crate...
Katie sleeps in her crate in the kitchen. If we move the crate in our bedroom she cries to get out and sleep with us. On the weekends when we sleep in I still wake up early, let her out and she goes back to sleep in our bed.

I don't think that's true, my parents dog and mine both sleep in crates outside the bedroom and I'd say they are pretty well adjusted. I think actually being in a crate is the most important thing rather than the location of the crate.

lol no not really haha
now that he's not crated, he sleeps where he wants to.... on our bed, on the couch, on the floor of our room -- where ever!

The cage is in the bedroom, it's a very large BR. The livinging room is too small now that I have my work desk in there.

Wienie sleeps in her cage in our bedroom next to my side of the bed. I would feel bad putting her in another room.
