If your kids fight (hit)
Do you punish the one that hits? My girls have been fighting a lot. When they were younger I handled it differently (time out, get your sister ice and say sorry) now I'm just thinking it's just normal and I should still scold and say it's not okay but leave it at that.
They are 8 and 11.

I tell the hitter to knock it off but let them settle it on their own as well

Let them work it out - I correct them not to hit. Unless it is a sucker punch or a random hit out of the blue then the hitter gets in trouble.

My boys fight all the time. I tell them not to stop until someone is bloody. The shock value of that usually stops them in their tracks

They both get sent to their rooms. Mainly because one usually instigates to the point of high frustration - and probably deserved it on some level.
