If you're on the fence, please post here! (election related)

I was having a discussion last night with DH and I told him that honestly, I could see myself voting for Romney IF I wasn't so afraid of his views on women's rights and gay marriage.

However, I don't really think that 4 more years of Obama is going to be good for the country as a whole either. I feel like it's a battle between civil rights and the right to *live* in this country, as in have a job and food to eat.

I am scared to vote, to tell the truth. How do I reconcile these feelings? How do I decide which is the lesser of two evils?

3rd Party. I know a lot of people who are doing that this year. I'm an Obama supporter and I am voting for him but because I believe in him, his ideas, etc. Not because I think Romney is the worst candidate to come out of the Republican party. I don't agree with the concept of voting for the lesser of 2 evils when there are other candidates out there. JMO.

if you are undecided, keeps watching the debates. go to fact checker online to make sure that what they are saying is accurate. and do more research. and go with your gut.

no president is perfect, ever. but thats why we have a large system of checks and balances, like congress (even though they don't always work efficiently/effectively).

good luck!

I feel the same as you.
I feel like I cannot, in good conscious, vote for either one.
I can't even chose a "lesser of 2 evils".
It's that bad.

So do I not vote at all?
Vote independent which basically is throwing away my vote?

I am really torn!

I simply cannot vote for Romney because I do not identify with his views and ideology. It is important for me to understand and relate to my candidates legislation. I cannot do that with Romney. That made it cut and dry with me. I am secure enough as a liberal to say that he does make *some* valid points, but not enough to sway me.

Re: If you're on the fence, please post here! (election related)

I'm at a loss what to do.
I'm not keen on what Obama did these past 4 years, and I'm not feeling all that comfortable with Romney.
What makes me lean a bit towards Romney is that he is more family oriented than Obama is, and has been in his own financial crisis before making it big.

I didn't watch the debates last night, I was too tired to concentrate on them.
I did catch a bit about Medicare - which that scares the crap out of me.

I don't think voting for a 3rd party is throwig away your vote. If 3rd party candidates got more votes, theri issues would get more attention and at the VERY least it would show the 2 major parties that they are losing voters.

I will vote 3rd party this year. I dislike both of them. I just wanted to say that voting 3rd party isn't really throwing your vote away. If people vote 3rd party instead of just not voting you would see 3 people running for office and not just 2. Plus voting 3rd party increases the funding to their party thus allowing them more exposure. In the past I have voted for a candidate because of who the vp would be, but this year i'm not thrilled with either of them .

Thank you for this.

I honestly never even considered voting for a 3rd party candidate because I'd be "throwing away my vote" BUT I didn't even think about the fact that I'd basically be voting on an absentee ballot from NY so my vote wouldn't "matter" anyway.

I really appreicate the feedback, thanks everyone.

This was fascinating!

I got 85% Obama, 79% Jill Stein.

34% Mitt Romney. I had no idea how many of his stances I disagreed with.

I was matched the best with Jill Stein, but I still plan to vote for Obama.

Same here. I voted 3rd party last election as well.

I thought I was voting Obama this time but I'm leaning more towards a 3rd party now. That debate was horrible.

I don't believe this is the best we have. This country needs a serious 3rd party on the ballot.

I took the poll, and the spread between Obama, Romney and Stein was separated by 6 percentage points. I am not thrilled with any of them and yes, it has become the lesser of two evils for me. I know who I am going to vote for because if I had to prioritize issues there is one that is the most important for me personally, and I feel that I have become a single issue voter.

Re: If you're on the fence, please post here! (election related)

I can't vote because I'm not a citizen yet, so really I'm just crashing the party, but can I just say that if all these people voted for who they side with based on I Side With, from what I hear from many people, Jill Stein and the Green Party would be getting quite a few votes! People think that their vote doesn't matter, but if EVERYONE thinks that, all these votes start to matter. Just my two cents!

(Disclaimer: I'm a lefty lefty leftist. So Jill Stein is super cool in my book!)

Wow. I took both polls mentioned in this thread, and I'm very surprised at the findings. The results correlate with my political party of choice; however, I did't realize how Green I was too.

I agree with this in it's entirety.

I am still not fully committed to either candidate.

I don't think Obama has done a terrible job.. but I think that there are plenty of things he might have done better.

I don't agree remotely with a lot of Mitt Romney's social stances.. but I do think that he has some good ideas from a fiscal standpoint.

Ultimately it's going to come down to who I think might be better able to help blur the lines that divide the parties a little better. Will Romney be better able to communicate and cooperate with democratic leaders than Obama has been able to do with republican leaders? *shrugs*

Sometimes I feel like it just doesn't matter.
