If you've been on unemployment ...

How does the DOL monitor your efforts to find new employment? I see there is a form to download on the NYS DOL website. Is it just fill it and mail it in every week / month?

Does completing this form really effect your benefits?

They don't monitor it that closely. You are supposed to keep a list and they sometimes call you in. I know people who were never called for additional meanings.

I had to go to one meeting where they checked your resume and showed you how to use the online job search function. Honestly, it was a waste of my time as I already had a great resume and I knew how to look for a job online. The other people there, however, had NO resumes and had been unemployed for 3-6 months.

As for how they checked up that I was looking for a job - they didn't. I was unemployed July and August and then luckily got a job. I think if you are unemployed for longer than 3 months than you need to submit information about your job search.

I have been unemployed since the end of June and have to go in 2 weeks for another meeting. I have to show the past two weeks of my job search to them.

When I was out they never checked - I had to go in twice for workshops, but they never checked up on my job search efforts. I was unfortunately on for the full 99 weeks which was allowed at that time......
