If youve gone to Europe....
how long did it take you to re-adjust to your regular sleep patterns?
Ive been to Europe 5 other times before this past Italy trip and i dont remb it taking this long to feel "normal" again. Im SOOOO tired thru the day and have been going to bed around 8pm each night.

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
I was only there for 3 days, so I didn't adjust at all. Drank a lot of coffee.
ETA: I read the question wrong. Since I wasn't there long, I never adjusted. So when we came home, I had no trouble sleeping. It was like I never left.

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
About a day when I got there. I try to book a very late flight (11 pm or so) out of Kennedy so I more easily conk out on the plane.
About two days when I returned to the US.

It took me about a day when I got there, and a couple of days to adjust when I got back. Everyone is different, though.

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
I was there for 2 weeks and I adjusted immediately. Same with Asia.
Nowadays, it takes my DH 2-3 days when he returns from Asia. It used to only take him a day/night when he was a few years younger.

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
I don't really suffer from jet lag at all. I put myself on a strict schedule when I go overseas and it has been working really well for me. I also don't eat or drink anything on the flight except for water. That makes a big difference.

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
It took me longer to adjust when I got there b/c I had taken the overnight flight. Whenever I came back (which was often at one time in my life) I made sure to take the flight that left later in the day over there b/c then it arrived in NY later in the day. I was ready for bed by that time.
Usually it took me about 1 or 2 days to be used to the time, but a week to "feel right" again. "They" say that it takes you one day for every hour difference. So Italy is 6 hours ahead, it should take you about 6 days to feel right again.

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
I never get jet lag heading weat, east is another story. It takes me about 2 days to get back to coming home. The way to NY is much easier because you go ahead in time.
For me, going west, the key is staying up for as long as you can! Its bloody torture, but it does eliminate jet lag. Just throw yourself right into the lifestyle of the land of your arrival!!!

Re: If youve gone to Europe....
i was just in germany last week... got back saturday afternoon, and i'm just now starting to feel adjusted. i fell asleep last night from 8-10 on the couch! a friend goes to italy a couple tiems a year to visit family, and he had told us when coming back, just to force yourself to stay up until a "normal" bedtime and it makes it easier to get readjusted. so like you might want to fall asleep by 4 in the afternoon, but force yourself to stay up until like 9 or 10 or a more "normal" bedtime, and your body will get readjusted quicker. we did this on the first day back, and it really did help....

I think about 4 days. I went to London and Ireland. I remember it was worse adjusting coming back home.
