How was the weather? I remember you asking about it before you left.
the weather in Paris was good - chilly, but not too bad.
Amsterdam however was FREEZING!! brutally freezing! but the sun was shining the 2 full days we were there. what a great trip! I can't stop thinking about it. it really was the best travel experience I have ever had!

Paris was just as expensive as NYC, but it's compounded for us b/c the Euro is stronger than the dollar.
coffee I thought was a lot. they serve it in these small cups or only fill it 1/2 way if it's in a mug, and it was about 2.50 Euro... so that's $3.50 for 1/2 a cup of coffee. and no free refills. but it was worth it, European coffee is SO good!
I think it really helped that breakfast was included in all our hotels. so we had a lot of coffee, cheese, fruit, etc. in the AM, which held us over for a long time.
it was an expensive trip, but worth every penny!
eta: in Paris, they add 19.6% tax to everything you buy including restaurants. so if your dinner check is 50 euro, it's almost 60 with the tax. which is $80 US

How long was the train ride?
the train ride was just over 4 hours. it's a beautiful ride through the French, Belgian and Netherlands countryside. Thalys is nothing like the LIRR! its actually comfortable
